Robert Mann McCune died October 29, 2011, at his home in Corona, California. He was ninety-nine and three-fourths years. Bob had many brushes with death since 2000 but was a true survivor. Both of his brothers died at age sixty-nine, but Robert inherited his mother's longevity genes and both of them lived to be almost 100.
He was born February 21, 1912, in Spokane, Washington. Bob lived in Seattle until he was thirteen and then moved to southern California. At seventeen Robert worked with a stock & bond firm in Los Angeles in the dark days after Black Thursday during the depression. In the early 1930's those employed worked long and hard hours or the boss couldn't afford to keep them. Everyone was looking for a job. When the company eventually went broke, Bob entered the dairy business.
Robert married Barbara McDaniel on April 23, 1966, at the Mission Inn in Riverside, California. They resided in Corona for the next forty-five years. Bob's work was his main focus, but he also enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, and playing card games. His passion in life was finance. Every morning he followed the stock quotes making voluminous notes as to the gains and losses. He loved playing golf and his golf buddies said he could not putt worth a d---!!
Robert was a partner and dairy broker with his son, Jim McCune, and Rick Bondar of McCune & Assoc., co-owner of Flamingo Dairy, co-owner of Corona Livestock Auction, and publisher of The Dairyman Magazine for over sixty-five years. He was dedicated to the dairy industry and served on the board of directors for the Dairy Council of California for forty-two years. Robert was also a long time member on the board of directors for California Milk Producers. In 1984 he was honored by the Chino Valley Chamber of Commerce with a Special Dairy Award. The California State Assembly also honored Robert with a formal Resolution rewarding him for his outstanding role in California's Dairy Industry.
In his personal and business life, Robert's ethics of honesty and fairness were highly respected. His kindness and great sense of humor were loved by all.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, son Robert T. McCune of Hilmar, Ca. and wife Violet, son Jim McCune of Corona and wife Petey, daughter Susie McCune of Sand Point, Idaho and husband Eddie, daughter Carrie Swanson of Yorba Linda, CA. and husband Michael, daughter Deborah McDaniel Kucher of Carmel Valley, CA. and husband Michael, ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
The entire family will be eternally grateful to Robert's loving caregiver, Jorge Vallejos. He devoted himself to Robert and the McCune family for six years.
