He was the 5th child of the 3rd son of Hillard and May Anderson.
Robert accepted Christ at the age of 17. He was baptized by Rev. William Thomas at Second Baptist Church of Riverside, where he remained a member until his passing.
Robert attended Irving Elementary, University Junior High, and Poly High School. Robert then served his country in the U.S Army, and was a Korean war Veteran. He was employed for 24 years at Hunter Douglas/Alcan, followed by 19 years of employment at the University of Riverside before retiring.
Robert married Mary Phillips in 1954, and from this union was blessed with three children: Son Robert Jr, and two daughters, Alphese Rene, and Roxanna.
Robert married Mariko Barkwell on October 14th, 1969 and was blessed with two sons, Jon and Preston.
Robert's hobbies included Fishing, Barbecuing, and going to Pauma on Tuesdays to play Keno. he would sit all day, betting a dime, which was an improvement from the original 2 cents that he used to bet. Following the excitement of playing Keno, Robert ended his Tuesdays with dinner at Sizzler.
According to Ellen J Barrier, "The strength of a man is in his character. A strong man is a great man of wisdom who understands, his top priority is his family". Robert truly was a strong man as his most cherished times where those spent with his family and friends, hosting fish fries, family get-togethers and just being POPO/Grandpa. It was during those times that Robert's face would light up, and everyone would be blessed to see his amazing smile. The Anderson family will forever miss Robert and his smile, and will always hold him close in memory and love.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Hillard and Mary "Gram" Anderson, His sisters Inona Anderson Bartee, Helen Mclurkin (William) and Betty Holden (Roger), and his brothers Elijah (Lisa) and Albert (Mary).
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and loving wife of 52 years, Mariko, His three sons: Robert Jr(Patti), Jon(Janette), and Preston(Veronica), and his two daughters: Alphese Rene and Roxanna. Robert also leaves to cherish his memory his brothers Marshall of Riverside, Paul (Merlinda) of Texas, and Howard of Florida, and sister Janie O Gorman of Nevada. Robert was blessed abundantly with 22 Grandchildren, 24 Great Grandchildren, and a host of family and friends who will all miss him dearly.
A visitation for Robert will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2022 from 8:00 AM to 11:45 AM at Acheson & Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary, 7944 Magnolia Ave, Riverside, CA 92504. Following the visitation will be a graveside service from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, CA 92518.
