Richard has been in our lives since 1977. What an amazing man and accountant.
He was an auditor for the bank that I worked at when I first met him. it was apparent to me in that meeting that he was someone special.
He has guided my husband and I through many business ventures and has always there when we needed him. We will miss him terribly. 
Our deepest sympathy to his family and all of those close to him.

I wanted to thank Richard for taking care of me and my son for 16 1/2 years.  Rest in peace boss.  God has acquired a brilliant accountant.

Richard will be missed by all. He was a real joy to be around and was always chuckling while he prepare my business and personal taxes. It was a pleasure dealing with him and he loved to talk about his books. A parallel universe believer and hard not to agree with his views as he has found many things that can't be explained. He made you think about and question life.

I'm so sorry to hear the news of Richard's passing. Just saw Richard about 3 wks ago when he did my taxes Feb 15th, on a Sat up in Riverside up at his house. We talked mostly about his book he plan on publishing, and the crime thriller I'll be releasing in April 2014. Richard's novel would have been very interesting, a non fiction scientific observation that Richard had been researching for the last couple of years, noting that we are not alone in the Cosmos. Since I'm an author myself I offered to give Richard some help or advice when he was ready to submit his manuscript.

Richard Huffman helped me out a great deal last year with my taxes for 2012, and pretty much got the IRS off my back, for which I'll always be grateful for.

Richard was our accountant for many, many years.  We were RVers and worked on the road living in our RV.  He thoroughly understood and was so great at what he did and also very gracious.  I am so sad that we only had the short time we spent with him every year at tax time and on the telephone.  He will be missed.  It was so very nice that he always had pictures of his family and was a special treat to meet his sister, Suzanne.
I am the excel spreadsheet queen!  He could do our taxes in 15 minutes!

Rick, (I never learned to address him any other way) while living in Peoria with my mother we were raised as brothers.
Being nine years older than Rick, he called me “Buba.”— this nickname was short lived, once the Huffman's moved to San Diego. Try as he might, Gene was never successful in changing Rick's beloved “HONEY”
Our mothers Mildred (AKA Honey) and Betty were the only members of the Schmidgall family (of 13) to escape the confines of Peoria! 
During the interim the Huffman family grew, the visits between LA (where “Honey” and I lived) and San Diego were frequent -- or as the price of gas (at 10 to25 cents a gallon) could afford.
 Rick and I would take to the canyons and cliffs of the newly developed (Mira Mar) neighborhood, as juvenile explorers, to escape the house of confusion -- the ever disciplinarian his “father Gene”, the career navy man had his hands full.
We both reminisced of the days when we watch the “drive inn” movies from across the street, on the front porch of the then navy house.
 We were growing closer together again, after 30 plus years of my disappearing, living in Germany etc.
I was so impressed how close he was to his children and now the grandchildren. We spent one afternoon last week, him competing with the kids on the jungle-Jim and sliding board, -- What A Memory!!

We are so sad to lose Richard. I just spoke to him last week. We always enjoyed his company. He was so clever in his views and he always did a fantastic job on our taxes. We will miss him.

How very sad to have to say goodbye to a wonderful guy.  Richard has done my taxes for close to 20 years  I considered him to be a friend as well.  I will truly miss him

 We were stunned to hear of Richard's passing.  We visited only a week ago. Yes. he was our financial counselor for 14 years, but more than that he was our loyal friend. We actually looked forward to our tax appointment! He was truly one of a kind.

How unexpected and sad.  Only a few days ago I sat across from him as he feverishly punched in numbers at lightning speed on his calculator.  In a matter of minutes he had an estimate for my tax return.  How did you do that? I asked and he just smiled.  I will miss his kind and gentle manner as well as his philosophical musings.
I always left his office feeling the world was not to be taken as seriously as we think but rather to find the irony in circumstances and just laugh.  Our condolences are extended to the family and may God's peace be with you in this time.  He is in a better place now.

We are so very sorry to hear of Richard's passing, he will be deeply missed by us all.  He had been our very dedicated accountant and great friend for over 30 years.  Our hearts and prayers are with you.

I was lucky enough to know Richard over the last 10 years and appreciated his tax advice and services greatly.  I will miss his continuous chuckles as I sat in-front of him at his office while he worked his accounting magic.  Please give my best to his family.

We are deeply saddened to learn of Richard's passing.   He has been our accountant for around 18-years.  We always admired and respected his innate ability to creatively, yet legally, stretch the tax code to the benefit of his clients.  His lovingly eccentric style endeared him to all... from his ever-present suspenders to his wild and whacky, bright and colorful ties.   An avid reader and researcher in his own right (in the vein of Coast to Coast AM radio talk show host Art Bell)... Richard was voraciously inquisitive in exploring the unknown fringes of reality.   I would loved to have read the book upon which he was working.   He will be missed.

I am very proud to call Richard my friend.His infectious laugh and quick wit, will certainly be missed by many. His passion for his craft was evident, but not everyone knew that he enjoyed following politics and sharing stories.
He and I met in beginning of 2001 or so, when we had offices in the same building,as time went on did some business together. It was during that time that I started to learn a bit more of his interests etc. It is never easy to lose people we care about,Richard will always have a special place in my memories. My very dear brother Richard was a joyous, sweet, loyal, loving man.  We grew up in San Diego, where his entrepreneur spirit became evident even then with a huge paper route that he built. 

Richard was the oldest child, and performed his big brother duties with great love throughout his entire life.  A great deal of responsibility fell on his shoulders when our father suddenly died, leaving our mother with seven children ages 3-16.  Richard was always there for each of us.

Well-known in the family was his love of ice cream, as he frequently raided the freezer, eating it straight from a 5-gallon bucket.  When the movie "Home Alone" was released, he could not stop laughing when the kid did just that upon being left at home alone.  My mother would padlock the freezer, but Richard would just take the entire door off to get at that ice cream.  Decades later my mother asked him how he always managed to get into the freezer despite her locking it.

When I was in high school, Richard and his wonderful wife Gilda became my guardians for a couple years.  Richard was finishing his business degree at University of Fullerton.  He and I often studied together, either at a nearby Winchell's donut shop, or in the college computer lab.  He thoroughly enjoyed writing computer programs, and this was when programs were written using physical cards.

It did not take many jobs for him to realize that to truly get ahead in life, one needed to have their own business.  He believed this to his final days, always encouraging others to take the plunge and build a business.  Richard built his C.P.A. firm so large, that at one point, he was auditing over a hundred school districts in the western states, and additionally doing taxes for many personal and business accounts.

He strived to help each client reduce their tax liabilities with smart planning and creative solutions.  Richard's individualized caring resulting in fierce loyalty from his clients, some of them still currently using his tax services.  His friendliness carried into his business relationships, and he truly loved and cared about all his clients, many of whom became great friends.

Richard loved family.  He made a point of attending each school graduation of my children, and other events through the years.  Richard was present at every significant event in my and my children's lives, and deeply loved and cared for us.  He was a brother to my husband Pete.  It was easy to reciprocate that love to this big man with his big heart and smile.

We often camped, cruised, and went on other vacations together.  One day in Yosemite Valley, Richard and I grabbed one man inflatable boats and floated down the Merced River.  The water level was low, and many times we became stuck.  We'd have to climb out of our boats, and walk until we could find a deeper place to reenter the current.  The laughter never ceased at our dilemma, and the day became filled with so much fun that we often would remind each other of it over the ensuing years.

It was to each other that we turned when troubled.  Somehow he knew just what to say when I needed that help.  I hope that my words comforted him in his troubles.

It has been a privilege to know such a loving spirit.  His deep belief in God inspired mine, as he introduced me in 1979 to our religion, Self-Realization Fellowship.  

And now, Heavenly Father, I ask you to continue keeping close my soul friend, my brother, our dear Richard.  Bless him and hold him close dear Lord.  As Richard once told me his chosen epitaph; “God's great adventure continues.”
