Paul Arthur Rout passed away peacefully on October 8, 2018 in Riverside, CA at the age of 81 after a brief illness. Paul was born in Denver, CO on March 5, 1937 and moved to San Diego at the age of 4. Paul married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Patterson, in 1958, and they were blessed with 3 children.
Paul graduated from Hoover High School in San Diego and earned a Masters of Social Work from San Diego State University in 1966. He first worked for the Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) in San Diego, and continued working for DPSS after moving to Riverside in 1968. Paul worked tirelessly on behalf of families and children for 35 years before retiring as Deputy Director of DPSS. During his tenure, Paul also served on the boards of the Red Cross, Riverside Christian Schools, and Mount Rubidoux Manor. After retirement, he continued to serve his community as a leader with the Gideons and as an active and dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Riverside. Paul thoroughly enjoyed his retirement years volunteering, traveling, gardening, and doting on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Paul is survived by his loving wife Nancy of 60 years; his 3 children, David Rout (Karen), Debra Wood (Robert), and Donald Rout (Anna); 5 grandchildren, Joshua and Jennifer Rout, Juliana Flores (née Rout), and Claire and Kathleen Wood; and 6 great-grandchildren, with 1 on the way.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 21st at Acheson & Graham Mortuary. A brief graveside service will be at Olivewood Memorial Park at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 22nd, followed by the memorial service at First Baptist Church of Riverside at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations can be made to Gideons International or the First Baptist Church, Camping Fund.
