I was saddened to hear the news of Orlando’s passing. He saw the positive in every situation he encountered. If you asked for his advice he gave it to you in a caring way. My heart was broken when I heard the news. Please accept my condolences to you and the family. Your in my prayers.

Opinionated? Yup! Sassy? Yup! Thoughtful, caring and supportive also come to mind. This was an amazing man with lots of friends. 

Orlando was the first person I considered a professional mentor. My career may not have gone the way it has if it wasn’t for his guidance throughout college and constant pushing to prepare for interviews, get involved and continue to give back! I attribute a lot of my success to his encouragement!

I am fortunate to have been able to meet with him in July for breakfast after nearly 10 years. Same old Orlando! 

Hearing about his passing this past week made me incredibly sad. I hope his family and friends can find solace in great memories, he certainly left a legacy and had a positive impact on many lives including mine. I’ll miss you friend!



I still can't believe Orlando is not here anymore. I keep thinking he would be out in the yard enjoying his beautiful garden. What a wonderful neighbor. From the first time we met  him after moving in, he came over and shared  how to care for our swimming pool. Not just that but went to the store and helped us get what we needed. We've never had such caring neighbors as Nick and Orlando. Never a thought of them went by without bringing a smile.  We Love you both and pray God's Grace fill you with His Love and Peace always.  Our prayers for you and his Family and Friends.

Our sincerest condolences to Nick Schouten and to the family of Orlando Taylor.  I have had the privilege of knowing Orlando for over 20 years and have had the honor of being able to call him friend, a dear friend at that.  We have had many memories to share of our times on the UCR campus and many laughs on hours-long telephone calls.  Orlando was like a big brother to me and will be truly missed.

Orlando taught and showed me so much of what it truly meant to care wholeheartedly for others. He offered that gift to me in every interaction I had with him. I was honored and blessed to have gotten to work with him at the Career Center. His smile and his spirit could light up every room he was in. He is a special one of a kind person and I'm going to miss him greatly. 

Orlando and I were friends for over 30 years and retirement allowed us to enjoy some wonderful times over the last couple of years.  His death was more than devasting to me and I will always cherish the times we were able to spend together.  

To Nick and the extended family, you know all of the wonderful characteristics that made Orlando the outstanding person he was.  I have never met a more giving, considerate and thoughtful individual.  I can truly say without a doubt, Orlando was one of a kind who will never be forgotten.

This really took me by surprise.  I realize it’s been quite some time but Orlando was certainly a tremendous impact in not only my life but many lives. In particularly those in Latino Business Student Association graduating class of 2000 UCR.  He was always on the side of helping us be successful. From helping us get Internships and also just to lend an ear to add a few tidbits of coaching us through getting our careers started.  There was a time in college that was extremely difficult for me and he was the only person that listened to me without judgement and help re-motivate me to finish school.  I cel rate his life because he impacted so many lives in a positive way.  My life is better because he influenced a change in direction for me. I will always remember him and vow to pay it forward.  Orlando, rest in peace my friend.  May your spirit flourish in life after death. 

I was so sad to hear that Orlando had passed.  I remember when he was a student at UCR.  Over the years we began very close friends, almost like family.  We worked together at the Career Center for many years.  We also shared our baked goods; his delicious pound cake and my mac & cheese would switch homes at Christmas time!  He took pride in everything he was involved with, at his home and work, especially his last job at the Career Center.  He had a good rapport with students and staff alike, always showing love and respect, and he would flash that infectious smile.  I will miss his phone calls, especially on my birthday!  Rest In Heaven Orlando and I’ll see you again. 

Orlando was a wonderful neighbor to us for many years. When ever we needed help with anything we could always count on him. His beautiful smile  was a reflection of his beautiful soul. He will  be very missed and in our hearts forever. 

The loss of Orlando is felt by many. May the memories of his generous personality and many contributions to the careers of students be example for us all.

I had the honor of working with Orlando for many years at UCR. He was such a positive spirit, impacting so many students’ lives for the better and developing such strong relationships with both colleagues and the employers recruiting our students.  The attached photo shows the acceptance of a gift for student programming that he was responsible for generating, typical results from the kind of effort he always put forth and the warm relationships that came so naturally to him.    He was also a great friend and confidant, always so wise and funny and kind.  He is gone way too soon.  OAT, you are so sorely missed.   Sincerest condolences to Nick and the rest of Orlando’s family.

May God’s grace and peace be with all of Orlando’s family, loved ones and friends.  Orlando was always known for speaking his mind and telling the truth. Throughout his decades of work at the campus Career Center, Orlando provided excellent guidance and professional advice. Helping students to find their career path, an internship, or a job upon graduation was his forte. Orlando made a positive impact on many young adult lives. He was loved and respected by students and staff alike.

I just remember that Orlando was kind to me, his smile was infectious and he loved his family at home and his UCR Career Center family at work. The world was a better place with him in it. Oh, and his peach cobbler outstanding! You will be missed Orlando, God bless you!

Orlando Taylor was a good and kind man who always had the interest of others at heart. His momma raised him right, as he would say. 

He loved and revered his mom, who he spoke of often. She instilled in him his respect for truth, his belief in always doing the right thing and his strong love of God and his savior, Jesus. 

He could just light up a room with his wit and sassy attitude. His beautiful smile would lift up the spirits of anyone who interacted with him. 

He worked hard, building a home and family with Nick, earning a Master’s Degree along the way. He was a man of many notable accomplishments. 

He had many friends and family, including his devoted husband, Nick, who stayed with him through good times and bad. 

Nick was totally focused on Orlando’s health, well being and happiness throughout his illness until the unexpected sudden and tragic ending of his life. 

He will be missed by the many people who loved and respected him.

Orlando was such sweet joy!  
When I came to UCR in ’94 I was pretty lost about how to recognize and utilize the university’s departments and services.  I attended a few events where Orlando was presenting, he noticed my plight, and offered up more help than anybody would have a right to expect.  We became pretty fast friends.  His personality was super attractive, so of course we did.  Oh, and a sharp dresser as well!  He rocked a suit.  
Always smelled great.  Taught me how to professionally dress myself and took me shopping when I asked him for help.  Taught me how to moisturize my “unsightly” arms.  He had opinions.  He shared them.
His warmth and generosity were oversized and he genuinely cared about people, in his life and the world in general.  He knew how to love.  He honored commitment.
I was lucky enough to know him in this life and able hang out some with his loved ones and friends.  Dinners, Christmas, football, even some backyard sun & fun.  He took me to a couple pretty epic Halloween parties after I graduated.  He could get down and party.  He knew how to have fun.

I was so saddened to hear about Orlando’s passing. My condolences to his family through this difficult time. I met Orlando at UC Riverside. He was one of the first people that welcome me into the world of college recruiting when I started as a recruiter for Enterprise Rent-A-Car. He was always so kind and funny, and I always loved catching up with him. After I moved to St. Louis in 2005, I would only see him about once a year at the NACE conferences but he always made a point of finding me so we could catch up.   This world has lost a great man way too soon.  RIP Orlando. 

Orlando was not only a colleague but became a friend! He told me I had big shoes to fill, when I met him at UCR to replace Pam Webster. He adored her but he was so welcoming and showed me the ropes as a new recruiter at the Career Center.  It was ironic when we realized we knew each other from high school, his younger sister, Jackie and I graduated the same year.  
Orlando was an ole soul; his family came first and he appreciated all traditions, especially when it came to food. We'd swap recipes and I'd always bring some of my mom's desserts. He touched my heart, always asked about my sons,  asked about my mom, when she was ill and was there for  her services. He genuinely cared for people, wanted the best for his students and taught them to be respectful and professional during their career journey.

I'm so sorry to hear of Orlando's passing.  He was a kind friend and I still think of funny things that he told me 15 or 20 years ago.   Will miss him.  The brothers of Alpha Tau Omega will also forever be grateful for his support and friendship.  

I’m so saddened to hear of Orlando’s passing. I was fortunate enough to work with Orlando for 10 years at UCR. He was kind, funny, generous with his time. When I left UC he would check in on me occasionally and it was always great to hear his voice and infectious laugh. He helped me considerably when my mom passed aa well . He was a good egg and will be missed. RIP Orlando and sending comfort to his family and loved ones. 

Orlando made the best macaroni and cheese for our potlucks at work. “He put his foot in that macaroni and cheese” in the words of Orlando.
