MICHAEL FERENCE, Age 91, was born on July 23, 1923 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and passed away on September 20, 2014. His parents were Michael Ference and Anna Matus. They moved to Riverside in 1929 where Mike graduated from Riverside Schools including Riverside City College.
He spent 12 years on the Riverside Police Department, 5 of those years on a Motorcycle as a Traffic Sergeant, leaving in 1959 to work for State Farm Insurance as a Claims Adjuster and Claims Supervisor for 26 years.
He was a First Lieutenant in the Army as a Military Police Officer and was awarded 3 battle stars in the Eastern Theater Offensive (ETO).
One of the highlights of his three years stationed in Europe in the Army Air Corps during WWII was a visit to Adolf Hitlers hide out, The Eagles Nest at Berchtesgaden in Germany. The other was his 60 year marriage to Adel Norris which was the most important.
He was a nice person with a wonderful sense of humor and will be greatly missed by his son, Douglas and Grandchildren Ryan and Leah Ference. His Great Granddaughter Mya wasn’t old enough to know him well but will be told of his exploits later. Burial will be at Riverside National Cemetery with his wife Adel. He will be at peace with her.
Gravesite service will be held at Riverside National Cemetery on Oct. 6th at 10:31 a.m
