Mercedes Gonzalez Navarro, age 87, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020 in Hemet, California of COVID-19 recovery complications. Mercedes was born on January 10, 1933 in Guadalajara, Jalisco to Ramon Navarro and Crescencia Gonzalez.
Mercedes grew up in Guadalajara and Cihuatlan, Mexico. In Mexico, she attended university for Accounting and Bookkeeping. After graduating, she then began her career as a secretary for a law firm. In the 1970’s, Mercedes came to the United States and worked at McDonalds and K-mart until she retired.
In her retirement, Mercedes kept herself busy with her lustrous and extravagant garden. She would spend all her time and energy with her plants, talk to them, and even play music for them. Her roses and plants would always bloom so beautifully with the love and care she shared with them.
Aside from being an amazing green thumb, Mercedes spent the rest of her time cooking, crocheting, reading, and writing. Every morning, you would catch her reading her daily newspaper, completing the crossword and word search puzzles. She also enjoyed camping with her family, sewing outfits for her fur babies, dancing, singing, and having a Corona beer or two! Salud!
Mercedes is preceded in death by her parents, Ramon and Crescencia Gonzalez Navarro, and her four brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Gabriela Espinosa, and her husband, Raymundo; granddaughter, Sophia Garcia, and numerous nieces, nephews in Guadalajara Mexico, and friends.
Mercedes’ memory will always be cherished and kept alive by a memorial space created by her daughter, son in-law, and granddaughter in her very own garden. The family requests that painted rocks with words or images be given to incorporate into Mercedes’ memorial garden space. Flowers, plants and cards will be appreciated also.
Funeral services will be held in private due to the pandemic of COVID-19.
