I met Lehua many years ago and from the first time I met him, he welcomed me into his home and showed me the true meaning of Ohana. He was always friendly and if he was cooking, there was always enough for everyone. Over the years, he also welcomed my family into his home and showed them the same kindness he always showed me. I fondly remember visiting his home, his “little piece of Hawaii” in Riverside and I enjoyed every time I was there. I will always remember Lehua for his kindness, his generosity and the respect he always showed me.

Growing up, Lehua was my brother in law. I was only 8 years old.  I have many memories. He taught me how to drive a stick shift. It took me 4 attempts to turn left on a busy intersection, horns honking at holding up the line and crying and Lehua telling me, no worries your with me, you can do it. Never mind the horns or they deal with me.  He always protected me.  Lehua, you were stubborn in your own way but, you never wavered who you were. Aloha, Big Bro!!!  🙏🙏

After my father-in-love’s stroke many years ago, he became a man of few words, but I always knew I was loved by him. He always made me feel so special. He loved our little family of 4 so much and when our own daughter-in-love, joined the family, she expressed to me how she felt so special to Lehua as well. Oh goodness and when Lehua found out he was having a great-grandchild you could see how happy and proud he was that his family would be growing.  My love and admiration for Lehua is overwhelming. I hold him partly responsible for making my own husband the good man that he is.  

I’m already missing you Lehua, but my faith in God, comforts me in knowing that I will see you again in heaven.  

To Irene and your Ohana, from the day I met Lehua and he introduce me to the family I felt like family.  Always a giving person, he truly showed the true Aloha spirit, you both welcome Tony and I into your home, there are no words that can stop the grief and pain but to remember those moments.  I don’t have a favorite memory because to me they were all favorites.  He is now at peace, no more pain, no more sorrow.  May God watch over you and the family,   “A hui hou - until we meet again.


I have so many memories of my dad.  One of my favorites is driving from Gardena to Westminster every weekend to pick up my brothers.  Me and dad would sing Hawaiian songs all the way there.  Oh and of course I was sitting on his lap "driving" the whole time!   I miss and love you so much dad.  I never knew such pain.   But knowing I'll see you again one day makes my heartache a little less.  


One memory I have was when we had a welding shop (Hawaiian Certified Welding) back when I was in elementary school. It wasn't too far from the shop and I used to rush there after school to watch my dad weld on jobs that were brought in. I would get there and sometimes he would be welding so i would grab a helmet and just watch. I would do that for hours sometimes. I did that for months and months and I would go with him on the weekends. Eventually he started to show me how to weld and I've been a welder ever since.
