HELEN TOMIKO MAYEDA passed away at the age of 94. She was born in San Bernardino, CA on August 3, 1920 and passed away at her home on February 15, 2015 in Riverside, CA. She met her future husband, James Mayeda in Poston, AZ and they married in February 1943. They were married for 72 years. The Mayeda family relocated to Riverside, CA where they were invited to live at the Harada home temporarily. Tomiko was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and best friend (Marie Bates). She will always be remembered for her gentle and kind soul. She loved sewing, furniture upholstery and especially feeding all who came to her home. She is survived by her husband, James Mayeda until his passing on March 1, 2015. She is also survived by her children, Sue Lee (Tom) of Riverside, Jo Ann (Gary) Larsen of Long Beach, Gary Mayeda of Riverside and grandson, Matsutaro Mayeda. She is preceded in death by her parents, Taka and Ishinosuke Kobayashi, her siblings, Kaye Tatsukawa, Hanako Nitake, Jin Kobayashi and grandson, James Lee. Visitation and service will be held on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Acheson-Graham, Garden of Prayer 7944 Magnolia Ave, Riverside, CA 92504. Visitation is from 9 am to 11 am and service is from 11 am to 12 pm. Burial will take place at Riverside National Cemetery
JAMES MAYEDA passed away at the age of 94. He was born in Brawley, CA on September 30, 1920 and passed away at his home on March 1, 2015 in Riverside, CA. He met his future wife, Helen Tomiko Kobayashi in Poston, AZ and they married in February 1943. They were married for 72 years. The Mayeda family relocated to Riverside, CA where they were invited to live at the Harada home temporarily. James was a hardworking and strong person who provided for his family. He will always be remembered for his love of car racing where he enjoyed seeing his cars race at International Riverside Raceway, Ascot and the Orange Show in San Bernardino. He is survived by his sister, Terry Ikari and his children, Sue Lee (Tom) of Riverside, Jo Ann (Gary) Larsen of Long Beach, Gary Mayeda of Riverside and grandson, Matsutaro Mayeda. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matsutaro and Miye Mayeda, siblings, Albert Mayeda, Charlie Mayeda, Sally Yokoyama and grandson, James Lee. Visitation and service will be held on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Acheson and Graham, Garden of Prayer, 7944 Magnolia Ave, Riverside, CA 92504. Visitation is from 9 am to 11 am and service is from 11 am to 12 pm. Burial will take place at Riverside National Cemetery at 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA 92518.
