James John McCann

Our Dad, James John McCann was born to James and Mary McCann on December 12, 1936, and while surrounded by his children and grandchildren, passed away peacefully to meet our Lord on January 11, 2018. Dad was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.

He graduated from Power Memorial in New York. He also served in the National Guard.

Dad married our mother, Elsie on January 11, 1958. In 1959 they moved to California with their baby girl, so dad could start his career as a computer programmer. He worked at Mattel, McDonnell-Douglas and Parker Hannifin. Dad also worked in the entertainment industry using computer to put sound effects into movies, television and the brand new Epcot at Walt Disney World.

Dad was a devout Catholic and member of the Knights of Columbus, where he enjoyed making pancakes or pouring orange juice at the pancake breakfast fund raisers.

After the passing of our mom, Elsie, dad married Patricia Smith. Dad and Pat enjoyed cruises and their European trip to the Vatican together. Our dad was predeceased by our mom Elise, son Robert, parents James and Mary, sister Geraldine Sullivan, brother William McCann and many other family members and friends.

He leaves behind his surviving children, Doreen Whitmore (Rick), James McCann (Julie) and Leanora Thompson (Greg), wife Patricia, 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren (1 on the way), many nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

Dad, you left us with a great hole in our hearts and many cherished memories.

He is not lost, our dearest love, nor has he traveled far, Just stepped inside home's loveliest room and left the door ajar.

A visitation for James will be held Thursday, January 25, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Pierce Brothers Crestlawn Mortuary, 11500 Arlington Ave, Riverside, California 92505. A funeral mass will occur Friday, January 26, 2018 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at San Secondo d' Asti Catholic Church, 250 N. Turner Ave., Ontario, California 91761. An interment will occur at Pierce Brothers Crestlawn Memorial Park, 11500 Arlington Ave, Riverside, California 92505-2106.
