A piece of me knows that you are right where you wanted to be, the selfish part of me is having a hard time accepting that your gone.  Oh the pain, it was one of the worst days in my life. We said goodbye to you today.  You were surrounded by those who miss you deeply but we're resigned to you leaving since it happened exactly as you willed it. I'll miss you, your smile, your opinions and advice, your example of love, the fact that I always felt like you were genuinely glad to see me and hear about how I was doing, because I know you were, because I was lucky enough to be a person you loved too. Your loss is felt, but your love remains. 

We will see each other again. I'll get to hear your voice, and I know I'll find you right next to Mami.

Thank you for my first Jalapeno experience.... thanks for all the stories about the boogeyman and you saving children from him to fighting deer with the machete. Somehow I never prepared myself for having to say goodbye to you, Papi.
Naively I thought you'd live forever, or at least hoped.

My time with you was cut short... this picture was not only the first time we meet but also your 92nd birthday.

What a privilege to be 46 and have had you in my life! Your very untuned voice singing on my bday, the clank of our glasses to cheer at the slots, the burn of your jack going down my throat as you laugh, and the way you held a vanilla shake until the last slurp will be what makes me laugh and cry when I unexpectedly think of you!!!!

I’m not ready to say goodbye yet, but we will give it a try. The girls will make you proud in black with your red roses and the boys in your guayaberas! Breaking your request for no tears because we cry with great skill as a FAMILY! 

Your’s and Mami’s deep love for each other, and pride for PR will forever be present in our household!

Over lunch you discussed my "funny" name  that my mommy and daddy gave me. In the end you decided to call me what you wanted....
My name is Keanu but to Papi he said it sounded like his father's name so he called me "Justiniano".  Which he didn't like either. 

We know never hit the jackpot on the slots,  but we got it in sips, cheers, love you muchos and  laughs!!

Parts of Papi are so intricately woven into the foundations of who I am, and who we are as a family. He liked us sometimes, loved us always, and supported us constantly. It's the privilege of my life to be his great-granddaughter, and moving forward is a task I am unwilling to take on, but able to face alongside the loved ones he's left behind. Every day feels harder - but Papi knows how I feel, and the significance he held in my life, and that makes everything a little easier. I hope everyone is able to find the thing that makes this a little easier for them. 

A total of combined military service of 47 years . Away from family. My beautiful military wife.

Our strolls outside holding your hand, Feeding Bruce and the pajaritos, our talks (jibberish chat) on the swing as we watched cars go by.  This is what I'll miss most. 
You protected from Mama, got mad at her if she scolded me.  I loved that you were always on my side. 
I sleep in your used t shirts and wish that you would have stayed a little longer.

My mind knows that you are where you have wanted to be for the last four years two months one week and six days. However the pain and emptiness that I feel within (the selfish part of me) yearns for you. Just a little more time, just one more hug, just one more "I love you mucho" and just one more wave.
You played the game of life, you made the rules... You went your way and in your time. MY forever HERO, we are so lucky to have had you for as long as we did. I will forever smile at the memories of you and long for just one more moment with you. You've taken a big piece of my heart with you!

First and foremost, 
The love for Papi is mighty within the family and friends. We will all surely miss Papi, and how he was just a straight shooter. Papi never beat around the bushes. However, always looking out for your best interest, even if you didn’t like what you were hearing. That’s what I loved about Papi. 

(The PR Trip)
I remember my parents sending my sister and I out to (PR) for a couple weeks, and my cousin Willie (AKA) little Willie, had been sent out as well. Julia, Willie and I “assumed” we were on vacation. Although, Papi had other plans for Willie and I. 
 
Papi’s “BackYard” needed some cleaning, and Willie & I were handed “machetes” to chop the grass in  the so called “backyard”. And if anyone had seen  Papi’s backyard in PR, they would understand why I’m telling this story. The backyard by the way was acres of property, and the backyard was on a slant.. 
Don’t get me wrong, as a “kid”, at the age of 15 I was ready for a vacation, however at the age that I am now, I get it! Papi was just trying to make us the men that we are today. Hard workers, successful in whatever we do on Gods green earth. 

 I’ll miss Papi, like I always have. Although, I know that I will see him again, when our Heavenly Father comes to take us all home. Love you Papi so MUCHO!! This is Mark (AKA) Marco, to my familia…
