Evelyn passed away April 23, 2018. She was 93. Evelyn is survived by her husband of 66 years, David John; her eldest son, David Joseph (Dave J); his wife Jean, of Divide, Colorado, and youngest son, Mark Lynn (Sue) of Upland, California. Evelyn, born May 9, 1924, was the first of three daughters of Gertrude (Dallinga) De Young and Peter De Young. Her mother, father and sisters, Lillian and Bernice, are deceased. Her grandson, Ian, is a freshman at Cal Poly Pomona.
Evelyn attended grade, junior high and high school in her home city of Ogden, Utah. She graduated from "The Million Dollar High in 1944. While still in high school Evelyn began work at the then Hill Field which was engaged in World War II support activities, beginning a federal civil service career that lasted until her retirement at March AFB in 1988. At Hill AFB Evelyn was secretary to the Comptroller. When David accepted a job at March AFB Evelyn again went to work first in aircraft dispatch later as secretary to the chief of Maintenance, a position she held until her retirement.
Evelyn became a member of the women's social sorority, Beta Sigma Phi, in 1957 and in 2017 marked 60 years with that group. She held many chapter offices.
Visitation will be on Monday, May 7 from 4 - 8 p.m., at Acheson & Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary, 7644 Magnolia Avenue, Riverside, California. Funeral services will also be held on Tuesday , May 8, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at Acheson & Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary.
A committal service is scheduled on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at 2:15 pm at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, California, 92518.
