Donald William Cessna, 82 years young, died peacefully due to complications of Alzheimer’s in his home surrounded by family on Wednesday, May 1, 2019. Don was born May 20, 1936 in Altoona, Pennsylvania to Edward C. Cessna and Clara E. Love.
Don served in in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959. He moved to California in 1964 and began working for the Sears Service Center in Torrance, CA. He later worked for Hughes Aircraft, Raytheon, TelASIC, and MTI Laboratory as an Electronic Technician.
On November 12, 1972, Don married Mary Gilligan. They had three children together and moved to Riverside, CA in 1979. In Don’s free time he enjoyed trips to the river where he taught his children to ski and how to be “River Rats.” He spent more of his free time coaching girls fastpitch softball in Riverside, CA. Don also enjoyed watching all of his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Don is survived by his wife, Mary Cessna; son Donald Cessna (Denora); daughters Kathy Cessna (Jason) and Jennifer Cessna Shearer (Brian); sisters Candace Westley Varner, Ruth Westley and Alicia Westley Burk; grandchildren Bryana, Kyla, Byron, Kathryn, Owen, Jaxson, Dylan and Danica; as well as cousin, Bill Greiner and many other cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Edward Leroy Cessna and David George Cessna.
A visitation will occur Monday, May 20, 2019 from 9 am to 11 am at Acheson & Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary, 7944 Magnolia Ave, Riverside, CA 92504. A Celebration of Life will start immediately after the visitation from 11 am to 12:30 pm.
A burial for Don will be held Monday, May 20, 2019 at 1:30 pm at the Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, CA 92518.
