RICHARDS: Carol Richards, formerly of Grant County, passed away in her home with her family at her side on Monday, May 1, in Riverside, Calif. Mary Carol DeLancey Richards was born in Silver City on Jan. 9, 1937, to Homer J. DeLancey and Margaret Pierce DeLancey of Hurley. She grew up with her younger brother Mike on a ranch close to North Hurley, attended Hurley Grade School, and graduated from Hurley High School in 1955. She was president of the National Honor Society, homecoming queen, and freshman homecoming princess. Carol was survived by her husband Billy Richards, of Vanadium, to whom she was married for 61 years. Other surviving family members include their daughter, Robyn Richards Hoffman (husband, Charles "Chip" Hoffman); son, Lance Richards (wife, Teresa Richards); and grandchildren, Nicole Richards Cox (Matthew Cox), Dylan Hoffman (Ashley Evans), Kristyn Richards, Graham Hoffman and Shea Richards. Carol was a committed Air Force wife who traveled extensively and was a wonderful, loving mom to her children. She was a devout Christian who loved the Lord Jesus and loved people; a member of Cornerstone Bible Church in Riverside, Calif as well as a faithful leader in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). Carol loved music and played piano; she sang in many choirs. As a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was always attentive, encouraging and loving, constantly using her gift as a seamstress to bless her family and others. One footprint she will leave behind is her gentle and kind spirit! The Lord has taken a jewel home and she will be missed dearly!
