Bessie Mae Smith

Bessie Mae Smith (Betsy) Age 72 of Riverside, CA passed away on Saturday June 15th, 2024. Bessie (Betsy) was born on 28 June, 1951 in Morganton, NC, to the late Theo G. Smith and Catherine E. Corpening. The Smith Family relocated from Morganton, North Carolina to Los Angeles, California in 1955. Bessie is survived by her loving son Wesly Lafortune along with her adoring grandsons: Jourdan, Sean and Amaree Lafortune. Bessie is preceded in death by her daughter Jasmine Baker, grandson Jaylen Lafortune, and her daughter-in- law Sandra (Sandie) Lafortune. Those that are left to cherish her life are her two sisters: JoAnn Jackson, and Darlene Smith; followed by her brother-in-law Wayne Jackson; nieces: Catherine Jackson and Ciara Toto; three aunts: Velce, Lillie, and Gertrude; along with a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Bessie (Mae) Smith was a United States ARMY Veteran; as she served her country in the Armed Forces for over 22 years. Throughout her journey in life, she loved to travel, read books, complete crossword puzzles, spend time with her family; all while cooking their favorite dishes and always sharing how much she loved them all! Bessie (Mae) Smith was a loving Mother, Sister, relative and friend! Betsy will forever be the SUNSHINE in our lives, and will be FOREVER (EVER, EVER) missed!!!

A celebration of life for Bessie will be held Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Acheson & Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary, 7944 Magnolia Ave, Riverside, CA 92504.
