Beloved Husband, Father & Grandfather

Bedile “Goldie” Goldsmith Jr. was born to Bedile Goldsmith Sr. and Mattie Louise Glen on February 25, 1939 in Mobile, Alabama. Raised by his grandparents, Bedile grew up an only child in Watley, Alabama. At they young age of twelve, Bedile expressed a desire to get to know his father. Word reached his father and Bedile was brought to Los Angeles, California to live with his father and Step Mother Odessa Goldsmith. Later in life Bedile connected with his mother Mattie Louis and established a close relationship until her passing.

At Age of 17, Bedile enlisted in the Marine Corp where he received his high school diploma and went on to have a decorated 20-year career with 4 tours to Vietnam. His military career also took him to Japan, Germany and the Philippines. He retired from the Marine Corps in 1975 with a rank of Staff Sergeant E6. Awards he received include the National Service Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Distinguished Marksman Badge, Pistol Leg Badge, and the Interdivision Rifle Team Trophy which is currently displayed at the White House.

Bedile had great work ethic. He loved work so much he tried to retire 3 times but always found himself back in the workforce. Bedile’s career path included working as a Jailer for the Cleveland Sheriff’s Department, a Mail Advertisement Manager for John Klein and Assoc., and eventually retiring as a Security Officer for Securitas Security Firm.

Bedile was married 4 previous times and fathered 11 children before he met the love of his life Delores Goldsmith and they enjoyed 33 beautiful years of marriage together. Out of that union they had one child and he also claimed as his own Delores’ 6 older children who loving embraced him as “Dad”.

Bedile was very family oriented loved to travel and would frequently travel across the country to visit with his family. He especially looked forward to the Goldsmith family reunions where he could connect with aunts, uncles and cousins whom he hadn’t seen in while.

Hobbies Bedile enjoyed were fishing, gambling, and dancing. He was quite the dancer.

Bedile is preceded in death by his mother Maddie Louise Glen, his father Bedile Goldsmith Sr., his stepmother Odessa Goldsmith, his son Eric “Lonnie” Goldsmith, and his grandson Mariano Perez Jr.

Bedile leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 33 years Delores Goldsmith of Las Vegas NV, his 18 children: Deborah Goldsmith, Anthony Goldsmith (Lydia), Kevin Goldsmith, Delarenta Goldsmith (Marquis), and David Mosely (Diamond) of Los Angeles Ca, Bedile Goldsmith III, and Ingrid Goldsmith of Riverside CA, Gualberto Goldsmith (Sylvia) of San Jacinto CA, Yvette Watson (Michael) of Temecula CA, Darnell Goldsmith of Washington DC, Danielle Goldsmith and Terrence Goldsmith of Cleveland OH, Michelle King of Detroit MI, Ernest Gaines, Ludie Gaines and Percy Campbell of Akron OH, Clinton Campbell of Las Vegas, NV, two sister-in laws Eva Dorman and Erittia Gaines of Akron OH, 2 brother-in-laws Arthur Gaines from Akron OH, and Andrew McDonald (Shalimar) of Detroit MI, 43 grandchildren, and host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, cousins, aunts, extended family and friends.
