Antonio "Tony" Hernandez Diaz, 71, a lifelong resident of Highgrove passed away on March 18, 2021, at home. He was born on September 28, 1949, in San Bernardino to Jesus Martel and Hepolita (Hernandez) Diaz.
Antonio graduated from John W. North High School in 1967 and completed his A.S. at RCC. After school, he was drafted to the U.S. Army and deployed to Vietnam as an Artillery Sargent with the 101st Airborne Division. Once he completed his military service, he worked as a fencer for over 20 years and retired with Harris Fence.
Antonio was preceded in death by three brothers - Gasper, Victor, and Jesus Jr, and two sisters - Elenore and Sally. Survivors include his wife Rebecca (Chavez) Diaz, of Highgrove; his brother Henry Diaz, of Highgrove; his sisters - Esperanza Mejia, of Highgrove, and Carmen Gonzales, Margaret Reynosa, Virginia Fernandez, Jennie Acevedo, and Guadalupe Delahoya, all of Colton; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, May 19, from 12pm-2pm at Acheson and Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary in Riverside with the rosary scheduled for 1pm. The funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, May 20, from 11am-12pm at Acheson and Graham. Interment will follow at 12:45pm-1pm at Riverside National Cemetery.
