Alfred Emmanuel ‘Freddie’ Vargas - Passed away after a fierce battle with Covid-19 at age 73. He resided in Victorville with his long-time partner, Jewel Wilmoth. Jewel’s death preceded his by three weeks, also of Covid-19.
Freddie was born in Riverside, the second of four children, to Tony G. Vargas and Antonia Vargas. In 1966 he graduated from Norte Dame High School in Riverside. He worked for HCI and Whittaker Corp. He loved his job as a Correctional Officer for 20+ years, from which he retired in 2011.
He coached the ‘Major Angels’ Reid Park Little League Team for many years and was an avid fan of Little League Baseball. He also enjoyed traveling to England, Australia, and Costa Rica.
He is survived by his children Terese Vargas, Alfred II Vargas (Veronica), Anthony Vargas (Missy) and Andrew Vargas (Adriana), siblings Michael Vargas (Beth), James Vargas (Belen), Lupe Marie DiFusco (John). He was a doting grandfather to 13 grandchildren: John Campanero (Shari), Joseph Miranda (Benlinda), Gabriel Miranda (Christina), Brianna Vargas, Xavier Vargas, A.J. Vargas, Alfred Vargas III, Samantha Vargas, Luke Vargas, Nikki Vargas, Nicholas Vargas, Eli Vargas, and Niana Vargas. His 5 great grandchildren, (Aylissa Campanero, Aubrey Miranda, Eric Campanero, Antonia Miranda, and Ava Campanero), were the Light of his life. He was a caring stepfather to Cara Wilmoth and Bo Wilmoth.
Freddie was a loving and supportive Godfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. He loved celebrating birthdays, Easter egg hunts for his grand babies, and being with family every Sunday and holidays (pre Covid-19). His cooking, grilling, sense of humor, and generous heart will surely be missed.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 10am at Acheson & Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary.
