Gladys Johnston Riddle

Gladys Johnston Riddle, 90, of 409 Green Hill Drive, Martinsville, died Thursday, October 04, 2012 at her residence. She was born in Henry County on September 22, 1922 to the late Jack Donavant and Claudia Minter Donavant. She had worked as a LPN for Shackleford Hospital during the 1940s. She was a charter member of Starling Avenue Baptist Church and attended Chatham Heights Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents were her first husband, John Andrew Johnston and second husband, Robert Riddle, one son, Dale Johnston, one sister, Gertrude McGuire, three brothers, Clarence, Claiborne and Marvin Donavant and one grandchild, Timothy Wayne Johnston.

Surviving are one daughter, Angie Smith Jackson of Martinsville, one son, Wayne Johnston of Martinsville, two sisters, Lois Carnell Stegall and Ella Wright both of Martinsville, nine grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00p.m. Saturday October 6, 2012 in the chapel of Community Funeral Service of Ridgeway with Rev. Mike Hatfield officiating, interment will follow in the Donavant Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to services beginning at 12Noon in the chapel of Community Funeral Service of Ridgeway and other times at the home.
