Mr. Van Zandt was born on October 19, 1927 in D’Lo, Mississippi to Ida Mae Carter Van Zandt and Bruce Van Zandt. As a young man, he joined the Navy and served as a medic. He went on to spend most of his working life as a procurement director for the Mississippi Forestry Commission.
He was an avid golfer and deer hunter, and he loved to travel. He loved a good joke and a funny story, and he had a keen intellectual curiosity about a wide variety of things. He also had a beautiful voice and sang regularly at church while raising his family.
Mr. Van Zandt is preceded in death by his first wife of 44 years, Winnie Files Van Zandt; second wife of 14 years, Carolyn Godard Van Zandt; sister, Juanita Van Zandt Collins; and brother, Jack Van Zandt.
Survivors include his daughters, Deborah McCain and Susan (Greg) Thaggard and grandchildren, Olivia, Alec, Burke, and Julia Thaggard and Conar and Donovan (Arwen) McCain.
A visitation will be held at Parkway Funeral Home on Saturday, January 29, 2022 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm with a funeral service at 2:00 pm in the chapel.
