William Brian Risher, 42, passed away August 1, 2016, at University of MS Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11:00am Friday, August 5, 2016, at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, preceded by visitation at 10:00am.The family will also receive friends from 5-7pm on Thursday, August 4, 2016. Burial will be in Flora Cemetery.
Brian was a graduate of the University of Mississippi History Department where he earned a Master’s degree after unveiling the importance of the Battle of Champion Hill in contributing to the North’s capture of Vicksburg during the Civil War. He served as E-Learning Coordinator and History Instructor for Holmes Community College, bringing history to life in a memorable way for learners of all styles. Brian previously served as a high school special education and history teacher in Desoto County, MS, providing lasting foundations for students who sought him out for advice beyond graduation. He studied art at Mississippi College and became an accomplished graphic artist, adding to a lifelong portfolio of compelling drawings and sculptures. Brian served as an inspiration to many in his capacity for creation and ability to view issues from various perspectives. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Flora and maintained a passionate exploration of biblical studies to the end of his days.
Brian is survived by his wife Jami; daughter, Sophie; sister, Julia R. Kelly; parents, Sidney Risher (Rebecca), and Susan Barnett (Jerry); mother and father-in-law, Dan Stokes (Betty); Grandmothers-in-law Bernice Bryan , and Eloise Stokes ; brother-in-law, Chad Stokes (Debra); step-brothers and sister, Shawn Wright, Lance Wright, Jacob Wright and Lane Wright; nieces, Taylor and Mattie Kelly, Olivia, Sydney, and Megan Stokes; many cousins and other family members and numerous friends.
