William M. Jones Jr.

William (Bill) Jones Jr, 86, passed away Thursday, May 19th, 2016 at Brookdale Memory Care Facility in Ridgeland, Ms. Bill was born November 7th, 1929 in Victoria, MS to parents William Sr. and Mabel Jones. He grew up moving around as a Methodist preacher's son predominantly in North MS where he graduated from Leland High School at age 16. He then received his bachelors in 1950 from Millsaps before enlisting in the Air Force. Bill and Kathryn married in 1951. Later, he earned his Masters in English from Ole Miss. Bill lived a full and eventful life of work (Univ. of MS, Masonite/Hood, MS Manufacturers Assoc., Deposit Guaranty Bank-PR), play (golf, politics) and board positions: Institutions of Higher Learning, Education Services Foundation. He and Kat enjoyed traveling the US and abroad, including being instrumental in bringing the Russian, French, Spanish, and German exhibitions to the Mississippi Arts Pavilion.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Greene Jones, and is survived by his daughter, Peggy Lewis (Richard); grandchildren: Micki Harrison (Michael), Kent Lewis (Laura), Cody; great grandchildren: Brittney, Sydney.

Visitation will be 4-pm Monday May 23 at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS and 9am Tuesday May 24 at Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson followed by Funeral services at 10:00am. Graveside services will be 3:30pm Tuesday at Booneville Cemetery in Booneville, MS.

The family requests that in Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Christ united Methodist Church, 6000 old Canton Rd, Jackson, MS 39211 Scholarship Fund or the Alzheimer’s Association.
