Sonny Bolton died at home at the age of 81. He was born in Thomaston Georgia on April 24, 1939 and was named after his father, Leonard C Bolton, but was always Sonny to family and friends. The women in his life were his mother, Marie Cook Bolton and two older sisters: Sylvia and Patsy. Life was good as his father owned the Blue Goose Café. Hunting, fishing and sports were abundant and his love for reading could consume him. After graduation from Robert E. Lee High School he started Auburn where he was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity and an enthusiastic Auburn cheer-leader. In 1961, he married Patricia Ann Hughes and was welcomed into her family by her three younger sisters and her parents.
Sonny spent over twenty five years with an apparel company, has been a realtor and owned his own business. He loved to play tennis and has played in different groups over the years and sometimes he won. He drove a Miata and could be seen driving around town with a tiger tail hanging from his trunk. He loved life and he had a big laugh and always loved to tell a joke. As an expression of his deep faith in the Lord Jesus, Sonny began to craft pocket crosses starting in 2002 in memory of their late son, Bob Bolton. From that time until his death, he crafted and handed out over ten thousand of these crosses, bringing hope and encouraging many in the Lord.
Sonny’s spiritual life was nurtured daily with Micah 6:6-8 being his guide; to do justice, to show constant love and to live in humble fellowship with the God. He said, “I want to be like that”. Sonny was edified through the fellowship of Manresa, a silent retreat; the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous where he enjoyed thirty six years of continuous sobriety, the Methodist Cursillo, Asbury Seminary Retreats, a trip to the Holy Land and a loving Sunday School class.
He leaves behind many who will miss him! His wife, daughters Laurie Bolton Koury (Peter), Leigh B. Tucker(Tim), son Ben S. Bolton(Robin). Also loved by his grandchildren: Brittany Tucker Roberts(Ryan), Shelby Tucker Rose(Hart), Robert Hughes Koury, Bray Koury Aron (Josh), Rorie B. Berry(Troy), Benjamin R. Bolton, Tatum Tucker, Ann Lindsey Bolton and a great granddaughter Ann Ruth Roberts, and also a sister, Sylvia Bolton McKenzie. Sonny was preceded in death by his son, Bob Bolton.
