Sarah Elizabeth Jacobs Woodrow, 92, passed away Tuesday April 13, 2021 at Lakeland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar John (Jack) Woodrow, Jr., and she was the last surviving child of the late Cornelia Bass Jacobs and Will Jacobs, Sr., of Jackson, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her eight siblings: Mattie Sue Jacobs, Will (Bill) Jacobs, Jr., Katherine Jacobs Gregory, Roland Bass (Jack) Jacobs, Harry Jacobs, Frank Jacobs, Robert (Bob) Jacobs, and Rebecca (Becky) Jacobs Barlow. She is survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Upon their marriage, Sarah joined her husband’s church, Central Presbyterian Church, Jackson, Mississippi, where he became a Deacon and she served as a Circle Leader and on several church committees. She and Jack led Vesper Services for the Junior High School students for many years. In the mid- 1960’s, they returned to her church, First Baptist Church of Jackson. She was active in Volunteer Services of Mississippi Baptist Hospital of Jackson.
After Jack’s passing, happiness and joy for Sarah was gardening in her “Grubbies”, traveling with her sisters, membership in the Chapel Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church and studying of the Bible in Precept Classes.
In 1992, Ed Gamble was introduced to Sarah by her nephew, David and his son, Eric. They considered themselves ‘very blessed’ for the opportunity to grow old together, and enjoy the fellowship of each other’s family.
Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of First Baptist Church Jackson, 431 North State Street, Jackson, MS at 11:00am Saturday April 17, 2021. Visitation will be 5-7pm Friday April 16, 2021 at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland. Interment will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, 6000 Clinton Blvd., Jackson, Mississippi.
