Sarah Maurer Harrell

Sarah Maurer Harrell, age 76, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, January 7, 2012. Funeral services were held in the Chapel of First Baptist Church, Jackson, MS on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 with interment in Parkway Memorial Cemetery.

Sarah was born on September 8, 1935 in Carlisle, Arkansas. At the age of 9, she and her family moved to Memphis, TN due to her father’s death in World War II. Following high school graduation, she attended and graduated from Mississippi College in May of 1957. She married Paul Harrell on September 8, 1957. They have been married 54 plus years.

Sarah was a career Preschool Minister. She served three Baptist Churches in the Jackson area for a total of twenty nine years – Broadmoor, Briarwood Drive, and First Baptist Church, Jackson from which she retired in November of 1996.

Sarah is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Lois Maurer. Sarah is survived by her husband Paul, two daughters Paula Dane Kirkpatrick (Lee) of Louisville, MS, and Maura Ann Harrell of Euless, TX, one son Lewis Howard Harrell (Tami) of Pontotoc, MS. She is blessed to have five grandchildren, Hannah, Daniel and Benn Harrell, Tommy and Madeleine Kirkpatrick, one brother Eugene Maurer (Martha) of Selma, AL and one nephew Chuck Maurer (Stephanie) of McDonough, Georgia.

Grateful appreciation is expressed to Dr. Paul Vanlandingham , Dr. Timothy Cannon, Dr. Michael Byers, Dr. Tammy Young and their staffs and the nursing staffs of the Progressive Care Unit and the sixth floor Oncology Unit at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, MS and the Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland, MS for their wonderful compassionate care for Sarah.
