She was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and also lived in Muncie, IN, Memphis, TN and Atlanta, GA. Her father was an outstanding manager of bakeries.
Sandy was an honor graduate of Brown High School in Atlanta, GA. She was a graduate of Tennessee Temple College in Chattanooga, TN. She also attended Reform Theological Seminary in Jackson, MS.
After college, she and her husband, Larry, attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where he studied for the music ministry. While in New Orleans, she worked at the Hibernia National Bank.
Sandy and her husband served First Baptist Church of Jackson as Minister of Music for 34 years. At the church, Sandy taught Sunday School, was active in WMU, directed children’s choirs and handbell choirs and sang in the Sanctuary Choir. She was a great friend and constantly shared love and mercy.
For a while she worked in the WMU department of the Mississippi Baptist Convention.
She was a member of the Foundation Board of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Sandy also served as Secretary of her and Larry’s nonprofit organization, the Larry and Sandy Black Memorial Music Scholarship fund at the Seminary.
Sandy was the proud Mom of three grown children – Greg (Shari), Glendale, CA; Allan (Rita), Ridgeland, MS; and Faith (Chris) Lutat, Memphis, TN. She is also survived by her sister, Beverly Swift of Knoxville, TN and treasured niece and nephews and her husband, Larry Black.
She is preceded in death by her parents Mr. & Mrs. C. C. Boone of Knoxville, TN.
Sandy’s family is grateful to their host of friends for their love, prayers and great kindness. We are so thankful.
The family wishes to thank Sandy’s doctors for their care and concern. Dr. Paul VanLandingham, Dr. David Westbrook, Dr. Ed Phillips, Dr. Steve Bigler and Dr. Bobby Graham. Also we thank nurses Jean Smith and Andrea Breland at Baptist Hospital.

The celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 29, 2016, in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church, Jackson, MS. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and on Monday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
