Sam Hooper Gammill

Graveside services will be held Monday, April 7, 2025 at 10:00 am at Lakewood Memorial Park, 6000 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, Mississippi for Mr. Samuel Hooper Gammill, 86 of Jackson, Mississippi , who passed away Friday, March 21, 2025.

A native of Jackson, Mr. Gammill was born August 17, 1938 and attended Jackson public schools before embarking on an education at Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, Tennessee. He graduated as Class Valedictorian in 1956 and furthered his education at Millsaps College and Auburn University graduating in 1961 with a BBA. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Mr Gammill earned his Juris Doctorate in 1966 from the University of Mississippi School of Law.

Mr Gammill served in the Mississippi Marine Reserve and Air National Guard.

He began his law practice in Hattiesburg in 1966 where he also taught Sunday School at Main Street United Methodist Church before relocating back to Jackson where he remained until his death.

Mr Gammill was preceded in death by his parents, Lora Hooper Gammill and Stewart Gammill Jr of Jackson; his brother Stewart Gammill III and sister in law, Lynn Crosby Gammill and a nephew, Stewart Gammill IV all of Hattiesburg, MS.

Mr. Gammill is survived by his nephew’s wife, Tish Jetton Gammill, his nephew L.O. Crosby Gammill and his niece Jennifer Gammill McKay ( Kennard) all of Hattiesburg and six great nieces and nephews.
