Rosemary Batson Jackson was born on June 7, 1918 in Hattiesburg, MS and died February 23, 2018 in Madison, MS. She was the daughter of Dr. Buford A. Batson and Rose Hanatee Batson. She graduated from high school at Drew, MS in 1935. The family moved to Jackson in 1936 and Rosemary went to work for the Public Welfare Commissioner, Mr. Wilfred Bond. She married Robert Maxwell Jackson in 1939. She had a long career in public service, retiring from the Mississippi Employment Security Commission with a total of 43 years of service to the people of Mississippi.
Rosemary was the mother of two children, Robert M. Jackson, Jr. and Sandra Rose Jackson Graham. She was blessed with five grandchildren; Christie Jackson of Jackson, MS, Julie Jackson of Gulfport, MS, Lee Graham (wife Georgia) of Starkville, MS, Paul Graham of Starkville, MS, and Ashley Graham Foster (husband C.K.) of Starkville, MS. She had two great grandchildren; Charles Jackson Foster and Ella Rose Foster, both of Starkville, MS.
She had two nephews; Dr. William T. Batson, Jr. of Anchorage, AK and Irl Bennett Batson of Jackson, MS.
Family members who predeceased her include both her parents, her husband, Bob, and her son, Rob. Also, her brother William T. (Billy) Batson, sister-in-law Thelma Bennett Batson and niece Elizabeth Ann (Betsy) Batson.
Rosemary was a lifelong member of the Roman Catholic Church and an earnest servant of the Lord. She was the secretary of the Catholic Diocese at St. Peter's Catholic Cathedral. In her later years, Rosemary resided at St. Catherine's Village in Madison, MS.
