A celebration of the life of Robert Maddox will be held Friday, February 23, 10:30 AM at Madison United Methodist Church. Visitation will occur an hour prior to the service with an Indianola visitation for 3:00 PM the same day.
Robert Cecil Maddox, 85, died Wednesday, February 21 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. He was born October 15, 1932 to Mary Parrish Maddox and Horace Stansel Maddox in Abbeville, Alabama.
He graduated from Abbeville High School and Troy State University after a military tour of duty. He served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany. As part of his duties, he played football for the USAF. He and his teammates introduced the game to many Europeans.
He worked for several chemical companies in Alabama and Mississippi. Retiring in 1999 from Delta Western Feed Mill, he relocated from Indianola to Starkville and eventually to Madison, MS.
Bob, affectionately called Pop, was an avid outdoor sportsman and tennis player. He was a member of the Indianola Rotary, Gideons International, National Rifle Association, VFW, Walter Scott Coffee Club of Jackson, and United Methodist Churches in Indianola, Starkville, and Madison.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Gerry Crump Maddox, sisters Stina Bankston, Martha Richardson, Emma Mobley Cleney, brothers William Abbot Maddox, Horace Stansel Maddox, and James Thomas Maddox.
Survivors include his wife of twenty-eight years Patricia Kemp Maddox, daughter Pam, and sons Jon (Cindy) and Jim (Staci). Stepchildren include Nancy Elkins (Lee) and Kent Toler. He leaves fifteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Bob was a good family man and leaves behind a legacy of courage, honor, and faith.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Madison United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society’s Delta Invitational Tournament (DIT), or the charity of your choice.
The family appreciates the care and compassion of the staff at the Martha Jo Leslie State Veteran’s Home in Kosciusko and Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland.
