Rachel Roberson Hemphill of Ridgeland, MS, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS. She was 93 years old. Mrs. Hemphill was born on March 11, 1923, to Kendall and Mary Roberson in Pontotoc, MS. She graduated from Pontotoc High School, Holmes Jr. College and received a teaching certificate from the University of Southern Mississippi. She was employed as a teacher in Kosciusko, MS, and McCool, MS. Upon moving to Jackson in 1956, she was employed as a bookkeeper for Redd Pest Control, and then was a business partner with her husband, James Arthur Hemphill, Sr., at their businesses, Gulf Plastics, Inc. and Seagull, Inc.
Mrs. Hemphill enjoyed cooking, gardening and sewing. She was a member of Madison United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Hemphill is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, Malcolm Roberson, and granddaughter, Renee Barron. She is survived by sons Bill (Sylvia) of Barton, MS; Jimmy (Mary) of Pelahatchie, MS; daughters Susan (Eric) Littell of Collierville, TN; Cathy (Keith) Comish of Ridgeland, MS; grandchildren: Shelley (Dennis) Bock of Starkville, MS; Buster (Vandana) Hemphill of Manhattan, NY; Karen (Al) Bruce of Mize, MS; Todd Littell of New Orleans, LA; Neil (Dana) Littell of Athens, OH; Clark (Katelyn) Comish of Starkville, MS; and Kendall Comish of Ridgeland, MS; 10 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Arbor, especially LaTonya, Emma and Kenyatta, for the wonderful care and loving attention given to Mrs. Hemphill.
Visitation will be held at Parkway Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel and interment in The Mausoleum. Services will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Joe Landrum of Crystal Springs United Methodist Church and Rev. Linda Rickman of Madison United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Madison United Methodist Church.
