Maxine George White

Saturday, February 27th, 2021 at the age of 89.

“Mace” as she was so fondly referred to by friends and family will be lovingly remembered.

She was born on January 30th, 1932 in Hornersville, Missouri.

She met and married after a short romance the love of her life Stewart L. White in San Antonio,

Texas on July 11, 1952. Shortly thereafter Stewart (Pace) as he was also fondly referred to

started a career with Illinois Central Gulf Railroad. While living in San Antonio they were blessed

with 2 children Lynn and Linda. His career then took them to Houston, Texas where once again

they were blessed with a third child Sandra.

The railroad asked that Pace move to New Orleans, Louisiana where they lived for many years

while Mace worked for Famous Sternberg Clothiers while raising their family.

Once again Pace’s work with the railroad took them to Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Mace and Pace loved this town. She worked for the Theater Department at the University

of Southern Mississippi. She absolutely adored this job and the opportunity to meet and get

to know some very talented Art majors. She and Pace became quite fond of attending plays

that the students were participating in as well as watching USM basketball.

They had one more move to make and this time it was to Jackson, Mississippi.

Mace took a job with Deposit Guaranty National Bank where she worked and made many

lasting friendships for 27 years before she retired. Pace had retired from the railroad as well.

They spent their retirement years enjoying their children, grandchildren and friends.

She and Pace were very fond of people watching and often times could be found sitting

and drinking coffee with friends, new and old. They were active members of St. Matthew’s

United Methodist Church in Madison. Her beloved husband passed away in 2008 and at

that time she moved to Sunnybrook Retirement Home in Madison until her passing.

Mace was well known for her red hair, quick wit and an uncanny memory for poems and

jokes. She had a deep love for her family and will be sadly missed.

She leaves to cherish her memories, Son Lynn White (Austin) of Dripping Springs, Texas.

Daughters Linda (Charlie) Walley of Madison, MS and Sandra (Marc) Daniels of Madison, MS.

Her grandchildren, Brandon Walley (Morgan) of Collierville, TN; Stacey Philley (Jay) of

Brandon, MS; Tyler Munro (Ryan) of Nederland, TX; Alicia White of Austin, TX and

Spencer and Cameron Daniels of Madison, MS.

Great grandchildren Lila, Lucas and Lawson Walley; Elle and Edie Maxine Philley; Grayson

and Kaelynn Munro.

A private ceremony will be held on Friday, March 5, 2021 at Parkway Funeral Home in

Ridgeland, MS.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are asked to be made to the Madison Lions Club.
