Lois was born on March 29, 1924, in Longview, Texas, and graduated from Mineola High School. She moved to Jackson as a young woman to work, and she then met the love of her life, Charles L. Scott. They were married on June 16, 1949, and shared almost 60 years of a very happy marriage, together raising their three children, Sharon, Jerry and Marvin.
Lois generously volunteered with many community organizations. She served on the board of Southern Christian Services, delivered meals with Meals on Wheels, served as a group leader for Explorer Bible Studies, answered calls at the Mississippi Crisis Hotline, and was also involved with the Jackson Symphony League, Ministries for the Blind, Girls Scouts, PTA and children’s community theatre.
For many years Lois served in various ministries and her circle at First Christian Church, Jackson, and was presently a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Lois enjoyed many activities with friends, including Town and Country Garden Club, several bridge clubs, and Lunch Bunch Supper Club. She loved traveling the world with family and friends, gardening, sewing, fishing, cooking and creating a wonderful nurturing home. Lois was known by all as a woman of generosity, integrity, beauty and kindness who most loved her Lord, her husband and her family.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles L. Scott; parents, Lee Roy Kemp and Zelma Kemp Thomas of Kilgore, TX; and her stepfather, George Thomas of Kilgore, TX. Lois is survived by a family who loved her dearly and will miss her greatly: daughters, Sharon Scott VanDeburgh (Floyd) of Madison, MS, Jerry Scott Goodwin (Henry) of Madison, MS, and son, Marvin Scott (Kathy) of Jackson, MS and grandchildren, Matthew VanDeburgh of Asheville, NC, Ashley VanDeburgh Lewis (Robbie) of Slidell, LA, Amy VanDeburgh Fant (Chas) of Boston, MA, Ryan VanDeburgh of Jackson, MS, Charles Henry Goodwin of Madison, MS, Sarah Scott Clark (Will) of Ridgeland, and Emily Anne Scott of Jackson, Ms.
Her family is extremely grateful to her faithful caregivers, Salina Burnside, Johnnie Morris, Patricia Robinson and many others who took wonderful care of her at home. We are also thankful to the caregivers at the Orchard and Hospice Ministries.
In honor of Mrs. Scott, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
