Lois McKay Bryant, 86, passed away on November 16, 2013, in Lexington, KY, where she had moved four months ago to be near family. A daughter of the late Daniel Stevenson and Lois Mason Stevens, Lois was born in Fort Myers, FL and grew up in Sebring, FL and Quitman, MS. She attended Florida State University where she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority.
She moved to Jackson 58 years ago and met and married Haden E. McKay, a member of a longtime Jackson family and with whom she enjoyed a 30 year marriage and had two daughters, Elizabeth McKay Sacca and Lois McKay Grove. Lois was preceded in death by Haden and by her second husband Robert T. Bryant. Family was the great focus of Lois’s life. A most loving , supportive ,and compassionate mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Lois was a surrogate daughter to her mother’s sisters, the late Lillie Bess Tarry and Mildred Davis, and she took a lively interest in the activities of her many nieces and nephews and their offspring. She loved to tell the family stories and she kept up with the birthdays and addresses of her widespread family members.
Lois took the same keen interest in her friends and in their families. A proud Charter member of the Meadowbrook Garden Club, she cherished her garden club friends, appreciated her long time membership at St. Andrews, and enjoyed her associations at First Presbyterian where her second husband was a member of the choir. She will be remembered by many Mississippians for her seasoned advice as a bridal consultant at McRae’s Department Store and at the Paper Place. She will also be remembered for her beauty, her humor, her graciousness and her kindness to all she met.
Lois was preceded in death by her sister Bess Shirley Hines and by her niece Susan Stephens. She is survived by her sister Nancy Stephens of Sebring, FL. and her brother Jimmy Stevenson and his wife Judy of Clearwater, FL.
She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Sacca and her husband Tommy of Lexington, KY and their four sons: Thomas Sacca and his wife Emily of Lexington, KY; Will Sacca and his fiancé Whitney Hayes of Munfordville, KY; Brad Sacca and Chase Sacca of Lexington, KY., and one great grandson Blake Parker Sacca. She is survived by her daughter Lois Grove and her husband Rich of Aurora, CO. and their three daughters: Ashleigh, Millie and Valerie Grove of Aurora, CO.
Her surviving nieces and nephews include Beth Infantino, Steve Stephens, Cleta Ellington, Connie Hines, Bess Stanton, Clif Shirley, Steve Shirley, Laura Stevenson and James Stevenson.
The family wishes to thank Helen Brinston for her many years of loving care to Lois.
The Visitation will be at Wright and Ferguson, Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland from 5-7 pm on Tuesday November 19, 2013. The Funeral Service will be at St. Andrews Cathedral at 11:00am on Wednesday with visitation starting at 10:00am. Interment will be at Lakewood Memorial Park.
