Kathy Walls Douglas, of Madison, Mississippi passed away on July 2, 2019 at the age of 61. Kathy was born in Pulaski, TN on February 18, 1958 to Imogene Taylor Ryan and Doyle Walls. She graduated from Brookhaven High School, where she was an honor student, elected as a cheerleader and developed many long lasting friendships. On November 27, 1976, Kathy married Don Douglas and together they had two daughters, Amanda and Leslie. For many years, Kathy worked as a retail specialist, and most recently as owner and manager of The Inside Story in Madison, where she developed many close friendships. She also worked as a dental hygienist assistant and real estate agent.
Kathy was an avid reader and traveler. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially on or near the water. Boating with her husband and friends was a favorite pastime. She was an active member at the Jackson Yacht Club where she enjoyed sitting on the balcony with her many dear friends. She also enjoyed watching her favorite college teams and all the fun that came along with it.
Kathy loved her family. She believed in having fun and celebrating each holiday and family gathering to its fullest. She always said that “it’s all about making memories,” and spent her time filling the lives of those around her with many precious ones. She never missed a moment with her three young grandchildren, whether it was a casual play day or a big outing.
Kathy was extraordinarily thoughtful and filled her days caring for others. She took the time to make others feel special, either through her time, her thoughtful gifts, or her small touches of kindness. She touched the community with her caring and loving spirit, always checking on others and doing what she could to help alleviate any hardships. She truly was a best friend to many.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Don, of 42 years; daughters, Amanda Douglas Summerlin (Allan) and Leslie Douglas Knight (Ben); grandchildren, James, Thomas, and Emma; mother, Imogene Taylor Ryan; father, Doyle Walls and his wife Linda; sisters, Judy Howard (Bill) and Lisa Walls; brothers, Eddie Walls, Denny Lea (Rachel) and Chad Walls (Christina); brother-in-law, Carl Douglas; sister-in-law, Jane Creek (Jeff); uncles, Ed Taylor (Marshall), Tommy Taylor (Kim), Jerry Taylor (Joy) and Wayne Walls (Delores); nieces, Abbey Lea, Laurel Creek Spainhour (Christian) and Miranda Walls; nephews, David Pittman, Taylor Walls (Haleigh), Brett Howard, Seth Walls, Zach Walls; many dearly loved cousins; and her beloved dachshund, Sophie. She was predeceased by her beloved grandparents, Kathleen and Edward Taylor, Eliza Bell and Glenn Roberts; niece, Beth Kelly; sister-in-law, Geri Douglas; and mother-in-law Mary Douglas.
Visitation will be held at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church on Friday, July 5, 2019 from 4:30-7:00pm and on Saturday, July 6, 2019 from 9:30am-11:00am. Funeral services will be held at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church in Madison on Saturday, July 5, 2019 at 11:00am. Memorial Donations may be made in Kathy’s name to Webster Animal Shelter in Madison or St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church Outreach Ministry.
