Juanita Smith Anderson departed this life peacefully for eternal rest on February 28, 2021, with her daughter at her side. Juanita was born October 12, 1921 in the Richland Community of Holmes County, MS, where she spent her formative years. She was 99 years old.
Juanita accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age in her hometown. She received her formal
education in the Holmes County public school system attending the Little Red School House (known as the home of the Eastern Star).
Juanita was known for her love for fishing and gardening flowers and vegetables. While residing in Lexington, MS in the 1970’s through the 1990’s she enjoyed traveling, watching western and drama movies and reading. She could easily read two to three books weekly. Her favorite place was the beach at Lake Michigan in Chicago, IL.
She met and was joined in Holy Matrimony with Leon Anderson, Sr. in 1939 in Durant, MS. They soon relocated to Midland, PA. She had six children.
Juanita later relocated to Chicago, IL. After retirement from the U.S. Postal Service she moved to Lexington and then Jackson, MS.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leon; sons, Cedric Anderson, Sr. (Shirley) and Edward Anderson, Sr.; daughter, Lois; and three grandsons, Wyatt Michael Rose whom she reared, Roderick and Leon Anderson III.
Juanita leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory, sons Leon Jr. (Linda) of Jackson, MS and Lamont Anderson of Indianapolis, IN; daughter Leona Anderson of Ridgeland, MS; sixteen grandchildren, four of whom she reared after the loss of their mother, Lois: Claudine M. and Renata J., of Phoenix, AZ, Mercy D. of D.C., and Robert L. of Colon, NE. She also leaves great and great-great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Mrs. Debra Garrett and Ms. Inez Clark. Debra has been by our mother’s side for over 14 years.
