Born in North Carolina to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Claude Yates, Joyce married Charles Douglas Britt and moved to Jackson, Mississippi with their young family in 1964. They made Jackson their home until retiring to Whisper Lake in Madison.
A lifelong member of Christ United Methodist Church, Joyce loved the Lord, her family and friends with a servant’s heart. She was a gracious hostess and delighted in entertaining and was especially known for her chocolate chip cookies.
Joyce was loved by many, and enjoyed bridge, her many friendships, and her career as supervisor and counselor at MESC. Her greatest joy, however, was her loving role as mother and Mimi to her six grandchildren.
Joyce is preceded in death by her husband Doug; sister, Margie; brother, Jack; and her loving parents. She is survived by her daughters, Mona Britt Shumake (Chris) and Amanda Britt Owen (Bill); her grandchildren, Olivia Shumake, Will Owen (Tabitha), Britt Owen (Rachael) Savannah Vallée (Zach), Max Owen, and Bo Owen; her sisters, Peggy Yates and Kate Holder; and her dear nieces and nephews.
Services to honor and remember Joyce will be at 3:00 Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Parkway Funeral Home with visitation preceding at 2:00.
Joyce’s family expresses heartfelt gratitude and love to her community of friends and staff at Sunnybrook Estates. May she rest in peace.
