John Hawkins Clements, 74, died of diabetes and congestive heart failure August 20th 2018, mainly, we suspect, to prevent himself from having to watch a repeat of last year‘s Egg Bowl. He graduated from Murrah in 1962, and MSU in 1967 earning a degree in Business Administration.
He was born July 19, 1944, to Walter “Bill” Ashly Clements and Sara McCalip Clements. According to Johnny, he was born prior to his fraternal twin brother, Jimmy, which is still up for debate.
He began his career at State Pride Poultry Processors founded by his father, which became McCarty State Pride. He later became President of McCarty Foods that was eventually acquired by Tyson. He then became President of Green Acre Farms followed by CEO of M&H Manufacturing.
Johnny was known both far and wide as “Chicken Man.” Truth be told Johnny was anything but a chicken. Johnny came in 4th and 6th in the World Series of Poker. At times, but not always, he knew when to hold them and he knew when fold them, but it is rumored he never knew how to walk away from any dessert he met earning him his second nickname “Honey Bun.” He loved “winning”, he had a laid back, no problems attitude and was the ultimate optimist.
He always said, “If you’re not learning then you’re forgetting.” There will be no forgetting his quick wit, his ability to listen without judgment, and the risk taking gambler. We know right now he is most likely quoting two of his favorite songs saying, “Hello Darling”, I’m meeting you here today, to take you to my mansion in the sky.”
Predeceased by his parents, his youngest brother Bobby (7/18/18), His beloved, late wife of 15 years Beth Bell Clements (8/30/10).
