He is survived by sons Van (Tonda), Dent (Pam), and George; daughter, Cheri Anglin; six grandchildren which include Ellen Anglin, Joe Van Anglin III, Michelle Taylor (Boomer), Karley Davis (Jordan), Adriane Briden (Parker), Dylan Anglin (Morgan); nine great-grandchildren which include Presley Russell, Meadow Irwin, Brody Anglin, Wright Taylor, Ella Bailey Taylor, Denton Taylor, Reese Ditto, John David Ditto; Draco Anglin, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda McCluney Anglin from Houston, MS, and granddaughter, Emily Kate Anglin.
Joe was born on March 13, 1928, in Vardaman, MS, to Isom and Georgia Bailey Anglin. He played several varsity sports and graduated from Vardaman High School in 1946. He served in the United States Navy at the National Training Center in San Diego, CA, and aboard the U.S.S. Valley Forge Aircraft Carrier from 1946-1948, receiving an honorable discharge with the rank of Seaman First Class. He attended Mississippi State University from 1948-1952 where he earned a BS degree from the School of Business in Marketing/Sales Advertising.
He worked as a territory representative for the International Harvester Company, New Orleans office, from 1952-1954 while living in Forest, MS. He was a partner and manager for the International Harvester, Farm Machinery and Motor Truck Dealership in Carthage, MS, from 1954-1959. He moved to Jackson and became a Heavy Road Machinery salesman for Mississippi Road Supply from 1960-1980. He was self-employed as a used road machinery dealer from 1980-1988. From 1988-1994 he ran a Class I rubbish landfill in Vardaman, MS. He lived in Jackson from 1960 until his death.
Mr. Anglin was an active member of Briarwood Methodist Church from 1960-2023 and was head usher for many years. He was known for his bright and colorful Sunday jackets. He taught Sunday school and was heavily involved with founding Boy Scout Troop 315 at Briarwood where all three of his sons earned the prestigious Boy Scout God and Country Award. As a vital member of the United Methodist Men, he donated many truckloads of sweet potatoes to the Men’s Club to be used as a fundraiser, and the rest were given to the congregation.
Services for Mr. Anglin are being handled by Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS. Visitation is Monday, May 6, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Parkway with a memorial service immediately following. Interment will be there on the grounds at Parkway Memorial Cemetery next to his beloved wife, Linda.
