His parents, Peggy and Grady Davis, whom he loved dearly, live in West Point, where Jeff was born and raised. He graduated from West Point High School in 1989, where he was voted class favorite (twice) and Mr. Westpoint High School. Jeff went on to attend Mississippi State University, graduating in 1995, with a degree in Landscape Architecture. He later met and married the love of his life, Loris Nejam Davis, whom Jeff described as beautiful, creative, gracious, and patient.
Shortly after he moved back from working and traveling through Europe until he figured out where he wanted to call home, Jeff met Loris. During the early days of their courtship, Jeff and Loris went on a camping trip with friends in North Carolina. One friend fondly remembers Jeff getting to the address line of the whitewater rafting waiver and, with a puzzled look on his face turned to Loris asking, “Honey—can I borrow your address?” And the rest is history.
The two settled in the Fondren area of Jackson, where they began the adventure of a lifetime—raising their four children—Parker (18), Steele (17), Ollie (15), and Sunny (8); and two dogs, Gertie and Fozzie.
Jeff was the owner of D1 Construction and Concrete, where he worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He was happy to stay in the background while Loris and the kids were in the limelight. Jeff was a member of St. Richard Catholic Church; but the center of his life was unquestionably his family.
Jeff was born to be a father and was involved in all aspects of his children’s lives. He could often be found in the bleachers watching his sons play football (Go Bruins) and his daughters cheering (Go Cardinals, Go Bruins); at plays; church events; family gatherings; and daddy-daughter dances. He was the perfect girl dad and a great role model for his boys. Jeff provided his children with unconditional love, support, and encouragement. They were his greatest gift and are his most profound legacy.
Jeff was creative and found joy in his work. He was a gifted carpenter and believed he could make most anything beautiful out of wood and concrete. Jeff was especially happy when giving new life to objects and materials that other people discarded. He had a unique perspective, which was evident in his work. Over the years, Jeff worked to renovate their Fondren fixer-upper into a sprawling home for the six of them.
Jeff was hardworking, playful, and had a tremendous sense of adventure and wander. He loved spending time outdoors, a passion that began as a child climbing trees (has anyone seen Jeff?). As an adult, Jeff’s time outdoors was spent creating cherished memories at their family farm, Cloud 9.
When reflecting on his beautiful family, the home that he built for them, and the business he ran, a friend said to him, “Jeff, you’ve come a long way from living out of a backpack.” He smiled that big smile and said, “Yes, yes I have,” with a sense of pride for the life and family he and Loris created.
Jeff was a beloved son, husband, and father; and a loyal friend, who was always there in times of need.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Loris Nejam Davis and their children Parker, Steele, Ollie, and Sunny; parents, Grady and Peggy Davis, of West Point; sister, Amy Davis Sonnier (Gerard) of Waveland; brother Chris Davis (Sharon), of Hattiesburg; and a village of extended family members and friends, who loved Jeff and whom he loved fiercely. His extended family includes Waddell and Lynn Nejam; Brooke Hoffman; Haley and Patrick Harkins; and Avery Nejam.
