Janet Gray Knellinger, 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, September 10, 2016. Visitation will be Wednesday Sept. 14,2016 at Highland Colony Baptist Church at 10:00 with the service following at 11:00 and burial at Parkway Cemetery Ridgeland, MS.
Janet was born in Chenango, Texas to Allie Lee Gray and Alan Gray on February 11, 1928. She grew up in Freeport, Texas and graduated from Freeport High School in 1946. After graduation she attended Gulf Coast Business School and worked for Dow Chemical. After marrying the love of her life and high school sweet-heart, Robert “Bob” Knellinger they moved to the home of the Aggies, Texas A&M, College Station, Texas. They relocated to Jackson, MS in 1955. Janet’s life was an amazing spirit of grace and encouragement to others. She always had a smile on her face, an infectious laugh and a positive attitude. Family was very important to her and she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Knellinger was preceded in death by her parents Alan and Allie Gray, her husband of 49 years Robert “Bob” Knellinger and her brother Edward Gray. She is survived by her son, Ronald “Buster” Knellinger (Sandra) of Ridgeland, daughter Debra Knellinger Rogers (Randy) of Jackson and daughter Marilee Knellinger of Roswell, Georgia. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Matthew Rogers (Tiffany) of Madison, Leanna Rogers Shay (Mike) of Jackson and Jenny Rogers Baucum (Mike) of Jackson, and six great grandchildren Johnathan, Charles, Breanna, Madison, Allie and Emma. She was a charter member of Highland Colony Baptist Church where she served in the Preschool Ministry, the Lamps Senior Ministry and currently the Laf Ministry. She had actively served in the Madison County Republican Women’s Group and was a member of the Mississippi Association of Petroleum Landman Auxiliary for many years. A special thank you to St Joseph’s Hospice, especially Leighton Serio. Also a big thank you to Mable Crisler, Janairrika Bland and Katenia Frazier for their loving care and support.
