James Carl Myers Jr.

James Carl Myers, Jr. (Jim) of Jackson, MS passed from this world to meet his Savior on Monday, April 29, 2024, at the age of 99. Jim was born on September 11, 1924, in Barrett, West Virginia to James Carl Myers, Sr. and Mary Belle Myers.

Jim married his lovely bride, Marie Brown Myers, of almost 74 years on September 24, 1950. In 1942, at the age of 18, Jim joined the Navy and served at Patuxent River Naval Air Station as a Machinist First Class, during World War II. While serving, he worked on the classic Navy planes of the war and developed the belief that if it was broken, he could fix it, which he carried with him throughout his life.

Always a very hard and dedicated worker, he managed the Sunflower Food Stores in Jackson, MS where he retired as a Vice President of Lewis Grocery Company, a division of SuperValu. He was also an entrepreneur and owned several other businesses in Mississippi. A longtime member of Broadmoor Baptist Church, and a Shriner, he served The Wahabi Shrine Temple as a member of the Drum Corps and the Jesters. Jim loved spending time in the woods, he could be found turkey hunting in the Spring and deer hunting in the fall, where he enjoyed riding the wooded trails on his four-wheeler or Bad Boy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Kitty Lou Rowsey of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Jim is survived by his spouse Marie Brown Myers of Jackson, MS, three children, Robert Arnold Myers (Debra) of Oxford, MS, Daniel Kenneth Myers (Michele) of Madison, MS, and Sandra Marie Myers of Jackson, MS; three grandchildren, James Robert Myers of Memphis, TN, Sarah Michelle Beckham (Josh) of Brandon, MS, and Christie Marie Allen of Jackson, MS; and two great grandchildren Isaac Edward Beckham and Caleb Robert Beckham of Brandon, MS.

Visitation will take place Wednesday May 1, 2024, from 2-3 pm at Parkway Funeral Home, 1161 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, MS 39157. A graveside service will be held at 3 pm at Parkway Funeral Home.
