A graveside service will be held at Parkway Memorial Cemetery on Wednesday, January 6 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am at Parkway Funeral Home. Jim retired from the March of Dimes after 30 years of service. He also served as a part-time Minister of Music at several Baptist churches in Mississippi and in Alabama. His retirement brought him opportunities to spend time with his wife of 74 years, Edna. Together they enjoyed following the sports activities of their 3 grandsons and traveling with a special group of friends.
Jim loved to play golf, work all the puzzles in the daily newspaper, and keep a meticulous yard. He especially enjoyed being around people and loved to be the jokester of the group, bringing humor and joy into their lives.
Jim served in the United States Navy for one year as a payroll master at the naval base on Treasure Island, California. This assignment was the cause of his hasty marriage to Edna one Sunday night after church in the home of his grandmother.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Edna Houston Brown; parents Robert C. and Hallie Denton Franklin Brown; and brother, Danny Denton Brown.
He is survived by one daughter, Judy (Walter) DeLoach of Madison, Mississippi. He has three grandsons, Trey DeLoach (Lori), Rob DeLoach (Kim), and Scott DeLoach (Caroline) all of Madison. He has seven great-grandchildren, Heath, Perry, Bryce, Ansley and Houston DeLoach, and Peyton and William Martin. These grands and great-grands brought him much joy through the years.
Pallbearers will be Trey DeLoach, Rob DeLoach, Scott DeLoach, Heath DeLoach, Bryce DeLoach and William Martin.
The family would like to thank his caregivers from Merry Heart Personal Care as they provided the care and attention he needed to allow him to stay at home until his passing. You have our deepest gratitude for loving him as well as caring for him.
