Gloria Barr

Gloria was born in Kerrville, Tennessee on August 24, 1931. Her mother was Julia Ethel Coursey and her father was John Frank Britton. She had three siblings, which are all deceased, Ann Smyth, Frances Jackson, and Bill Britton, Sr.

She grew up and attended schools in Memphis, Tennessee. She worked all of her working years doing secretarial work for various places.

Gloria’s interests include playing Bridge and Mah Jongg with ladies’ groups. She enjoyed cooking for company, especially family gatherings and bridge parties. Gloria was a long time member of Spring Woods United Methodist Church from 1980 until she moved to St. Catherine’s Village in May 2018.

Gloria is preceded in death by husbands Hugh Dowling, Bernie Hench, and Bob Barr. Gloria’s family includes her two sons, Richard Lee Dowling and Hugh McCallum Dowling. Hugh is married to Helen Mullen Dowling. Gloria had on granddaughter, Mandy Milstead, who is married to Taz Milstead and has two children, Kahlen and Owen Milstead. Gloria’s nieces and nephews include Gayle Kirkpatrick and Husband John, Betty Sue Allen and husband Ronald, Michelle Britton, Steve Britton and wife Karen, Bill Britton, JR., Lisa Mitchell and many great-nieces and nephews. Gloria’s step-sons and daughter are Robbie Soukup and husband Randolph, Sam Barr, Seletta Rookard wife of the late Ted Rookard, Steve Rookard and wife Karen, Jesse Rookard, the late James Rookard, Doug Hench, and Ron Hench.

The funeral service for Gloria Barr will be at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS on Saturday January 4, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.
