George Clanton Gunn, III, 65, died peacefully on June 3, 2017 at his home in Ridgeland, Mississippi. Visitation and the funeral service will be held at Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 5, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, June 6, beginning at 12:30 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6.
Raised in Columbia, Mississippi, George attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He later graduated from the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. He moved to Jackson, Mississippi, and met Robin Barnett, whom he married on Valentine's Day in 1981.
After several years in Louisiana, George moved back to Jackson in 1983 to work at Trustmark National Bank. After 34 years of service at Trustmark, he retired on April 30, 2017, as Executive Vice President and Real Estate Banking Manager. He served on the boards of numerous civic and charitable organizations, including the Mississippi Children's Home, Mississippi Kidney Foundation, American Heart Foundation, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the Else School of Management at Millsaps College. He was a past-president of the Country Club of Jackson and a recipient of the Home Builders Association of Mississippi Housing Hall of Fame award.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Clanton Gunn, Jr. and Allene Baker Gunn. He is survived by his wife, Robin; sons Clay (Jennifer) and Conner (Becca); and four grandchildren: Russell, Caroline, Patrick, and Maddy.
