Freida Brown Haun, 82, of Brandon, MS entered into eternal rest on Friday morning, June 9, 2023. She was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband of 61 years, Phil Haun. Freida was born in Rockmart, GA on August 18, 1940 to Sue and Harold Brown.
Freida was a strong and tenacious woman who met life’s many challenges head-on. Being told “no” usually lit a fire of determination in her to overcome obstacles, persevere through hardships, or accomplish hard tasks. Her fighting spirit and “get-it-done” attitude made her a loyal friend and valued co-worker, especially in her administrative assistant roles at various medical centers and churches throughout the years.
Freida learned to play the piano at a young age and developed a lifelong love of music. Her family remembers the careful saving of money to buy a piano. Hearing her practice daily and play songs and hymns are some of their most prominent childhood memories. She enjoyed learning and playing the organ and loved being a part of the handbell choir at church. Freida passed this love of music on to her children and grandchildren and joyfully shared this gift with her church family, playing for worship services and Sunday School classes.
Freida loved spending time with her friends, whether in a game of bunco or cards, hosting themed dinner clubs, visiting on the porch, or traveling. One of her favorite places was the beach, where she enjoyed the warm sunshine, salty sea air, and the sound of the surf. Some of her fondest times were the years she and Phil camped in their RV, embarking on cross-country adventures and beach vacations. She was passionate about attending high school basketball games, collecting cow-related décor, and solving crossword puzzles.
Freida was sharp-witted, loved to tell and hear a good joke, (accompanied by her distinctive “cackle” laugh and occasional snort!) and was “all about the details”. She adored dogs and was a great cook. No one, family or friend, left the Haun table hungry.
She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother and GG. Surviving children are Scott Haun (Dawn) of Cocoa, Florida; David Haun (Patricia) of Santa Barbara, California; Beth Haun Adams (Paul, Jr) of Clinton, MS; and Barbara Haun Taylor (Saddler) of West Columbia, SC.
Freida’s legacy continues through grandchildren, Parker Adams McDaniel (Jonathan), Jeffrey Adams (Mary Madelon), Anne Adams, Ava Haun, Jon Haun (Monica), Chris Haun (Julie), Creighton Taylor, Mattie Taylor, Culley Taylor and many other extended family members.
Freida was laid to rest at Parkway Memorial Cemetery in Ridgeland, MS alongside her beloved husband, Phil. The Haun family would like to invite you to attend a “Celebration of Life” Service for Freida at Lakeside Presbyterian Church, 2070 Spillway Road, Brandon, MS on Wednesday, July, 12, 2023 at 11:00 am. Visitation begins at 10:00 am.
