Ed was born on December 28, 1945 to Clarence and Marguerite Hudgins in Sweetwater, Texas. He was married to his highschool sweetheart, Suzanne Johnson Hudgins, for 53 years until her passing in 2020. Ed is survived by his three loving daughters and their spouses: Kelsey and John Abington, Leslie and Jay Loposer and Courtney and Scott Ray. He has nine grandchildren: Brooke Abington Carlson and her husband Ocean Carlson, Wesley Abington and his wife Brooklyn Abington, Joshua Abington and Andrew Abington, Brock Loposer, Knox Loposer, Price Loposer, Noah Ray and Emery Ray and one great grandson, Rivers Carlson. He was preceded in death by both of his parents and his sister Sue Hudgins Michael.
Ed attended Hattiesburg High School where he played 4 years on the varsity football team and was named Prep All-American in 1963. He played 4 years of football at Mississippi State University as a linebacker and graduated in 1968 with his bachelor’s degree in marketing. Ed also completed continuing education programs at the University of Michigan and MIT.
After graduation, Ed worked at Sun Oil Company moving from state to state until finally settling in Philadelphia, PA as the Vice President of finance and eventually Vice President of sales over 7 different international companies. In 1986, Ed moved his family to Jackson, Ms to work for Ergon in a start-up operation in lubricants and specialty products. He retired in 2014 as Senior Vice President in petroleum specialties over all sales and marketing.
Ed served on the board of Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) for the state of Ms for 28 years. He also served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher at various churches but spent his last years as an active member of Broadmoor Baptist Church and a part of the TOMBS (The Old Men Bible Study). Ed became a disciple of Jesus Christ at an early age and has served the Lord faithfully his entire life. Ed loved to golf and fish but there is nothing he loved more than his family. Ed was known for his kindness, gentleness, loyalty, generosity and above all else, a servant’s heart.
The visitation is scheduled at 12:00 on Saturday, July 20th, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS.
