Charles Rickey (Rick) Horne (73) of Madison, MS went home to his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. Rick was born in Holmes county on December 26, 1950 to Mr. And Mrs. Alonzo Lamar Horne, Sr. He attended schools in Holmes County. In 1969, he joined the Mississippi Air National Guard (MSANG). His early careers included working as a surveyor and a welding inspector. His most fulfilling career was, by far, when he went to work full-time at the MSANG 172nd Airlift Wing. During his service, he proudly served on active duty in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He retired December 31, 2010 as CMSgt of the 172nd Aircraft Maintenance Fabrication section. His father-in-law (Clark McDaniel) always said if anyone ever enjoyed retirement, it was Rickey Horne. Retirement afforded him the opportunity to enjoy watching old westerns on television, as well as, participating in various outdoor activities such as biking, riding a motorcycle, and even an adventure zip lining on a mission trip. He took up guitar lessons, but his guitar teacher and his four cats were the only ones he entertained.
He was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison, MS and attended the Jarrett LifeGroup. He went on mission trips to Washington, DC; Caribou, ME; and India. Each year he looked forward to helping young boys and girls build crafts, such as tool boxes and bird houses, during WOW Week (Vacation Bible School).
Rick was preceded in death by his parents Alonzo and Gussie Horne and brother Alonzo Horne, Jr. Also preceding him in death was his in-laws, Clark and Betty McDaniel and brother-in-law Mike Cochran.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra McDaniel Horne. He is also survived by his four fur babies: Gracie, Izzy, Brandy and Bailey Horne.
He is survived by his brother, James Patrick Horne (Nona) of Sallis; sister-in-law Diane Horne of Grenada; sister-in-law Elaine Cochran of Canton. He was the proud uncle of five nieces, one nephew, and 10 great-nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Center for Hope and Healing, c/o Broadmoor Baptist Church, 1531 Highland Colony Parkway, Madison, MS. 39110 or a charity of your choice.
