He served 18 months on active duty with the Air Force during the Korean Conflict and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing. He married the love of his life, Betty Carpenter, while at USM.
Charlie began a 31-year career as a salesman at IBM in 1956. While at IBM, he was a member of the Hundred Percent Club for 23 consecutive years. He also attained Golden Circle status a total of 12 times. After retirement from IBM, Charlie teamed up with his brother, Gerald, to market a new industrial pump and then entered the commercial real estate business with his friend, Bucky Gideon until his second retirement in 2000.
An active member of Christ United Methodist Church since 1965, Charlie served on many church committees, was a member of the Helping Hands Ministry and Joy Choir, delivered Meals on Wheels, and was actively involved in Cursillo. Christ Methodist was a very important part of Charlie’s life.
Charlie received the 2015 Mississippi Hospital Association Volunteer of the Year Award and the 2016 Goodwill Industries Volunteer Service Award for his countless hours of dedicated service to the Methodist Rehabilitation Center.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Betty Lott, son, Charles “Chuck” Aaron Lott, Jr. and Kathie Gunn Lott of Jackson, MS; son, Harold “Hal” Michael Lott and Polly Earp Lott of Jackson, MS, grandchildren Hal Michael Lott and Sally Lott of Nashville, TN, and Alex Lott White and Cap White of Baton Rouge, LA; daughter Laurie Lott DeFoe and William James DeFoe of Brandon, MS, grandchildren Courtney DeFoe Jones and Demarre Jones of Madison, MS, Kristen DeFoe Butler and Jet Butler of Pensacola, FL and Kelli DeFoe McClanahan and Macon McClanahan of Hernando, MS; and son Darrell Mitchell Lott and Tricia Belue Lott of Madison, MS, granddaughters Dane Lott Kealhofer and Jake Kealhofer of Madison, MS, Jordan Lott of Jackson, MS and Molli Lott of Brooklyn, NY. He is survived by 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, William Gerald Lott and Joyce Lott of Houston, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
The family wants to thank the staff and employees at The Arbor in Ridgeland, MS and all those who cared for him in the last four years.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, Jackson, MS, on June 5, 2023 beginning at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held beginning at 9:00 a.m. and following the service.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Endowment Fund at Christ United Methodist Church or the Methodist Rehabilitation Center.
