Betty Joan Cox East, 81, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Hospice Ministries, Ridgeland, MS. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Saturday, March 9, 2013 from the Chapel of Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home, 1161 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, MS. Visitation will be held Friday March 8, 2013 from 5:00-7:00pm and Saturday March 9, 2013 from 10:00-11:00am. Burial will be in Montgomery Cemetery in Madison, MS.
Betty was born on December 24, 1931, in Madison, MS to the late Llewellyn Henry Sr. and Lottie Rice Cox of Madison. She attended Madison-Ridgeland High School and Holmes Jr. College. She was employed in multiple accounting positions during the years of raising her family. At her time of retirement, she was employed by Raytheon.
She was a life long member of Madison United Methodist Church formerly known as Montgomery Memorial Methodist Church in Madison, MS.
She is preceded in death by her sisters, Madeline Hawkins and Mary Elizabeth Cox and her brothers Llewellyn Henry Cox Jr and Cornelius Sidney Cox. She leaves as her survivors: two daughters, J. JaNelle East and Lynda R. Hardy; three sons, Arthur Lee East, III, Robert (Bobby) Lawrence East, and Daniel J. East; her two granddaughters, Tiffany Sikes and Christina (Tina) East; and two great grandsons, Maurice (Reese) K. Sikes and James William (JW) Hedgepeth; her sister, Martha Jane Coign and sister-in-law, Frances Rose Cox of Kansas City, KS. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as their extended families.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Drs. Lewis (Bard) Johnston, Charles Laney, Jeffrey Glover & their respective staffs for the support during this last year of her life to her and our family. The support of numerous friends also has made her life much richer. Special thanks to the Saturday Morning McDonalds Coffee Club ladies in Madison, MS as well as Lucy Presley, Mary Ellen Stanley, Bonnie Jo Hoy, Becky Mercier, Becky Jenkins, and Holly Marlatte.
