Barbara Louise Hynum Dorr was born February 22, 1942, in Pattison, Mississippi to Benjamin Pierce Hynum and Thelma Eloise Fife Hynum. She graduated from Port Gibson High School and earned a degree in Business Administration from Belhaven College.
Barbara enjoyed a very rewarding and successful career of 34 years with the telephone company, retiring as a manager. In true Barbara style, she was the first female manager of Central Office Technicians within Bell South. Not only a trailblazer in the office; she had the honor of carrying the blaze of the Olympic torch through Tupelo, Mississippi in 1984. Barbara also spent numerous years overseeing many worthwhile projects with the Telephone Pioneers. After retiring from the tele phone company, she served as the Executive Director at Keep Mississippi Beautiful for 16 years.
Barbara had a big personality and never met a stranger. Everyone who knew her loved her (and EVERYONE knew her!) No one loved her more than her Montana man, who captured her heart while passing through on his way to Florida. Barbara and Lee raised three beautiful children and celebrated 58 years of marriage. Barbara enjoyed spending precious time with her five granddaughters. They were the light of her world; she simply adored them. Her nieces and nephews knew her as the “Greatest” Aunt Barbara and always cherished visits with her. Barbara was a pillar of strength and grace. She lived a wonderful life blessing count less people with her generosity and kindred spirit. She will be dearly missed.
Barbara was a member of First Baptist Church of Madison. She is survived by her husband Lee Ross Dorr, daughter Debra Dorr Thomas and husband Philip W. Thomas, son Lee Ross Dorr Jr, and wife Kasey Dorr, granddaughters Savannah Thomas (27), Madison Klein (22), Mallie Zandra Thomas (16), Ella McLaine Dorr (16) and Emerson Leigh Dorr (13), and brother Rudolph Neal Hynum.
